From the National Office
Dear masters member

To our members, volunteers, their families, and friends all over Australia, thankyou for keeping connected and looking out for each other.

The MSA team is small and agile; we are proud of the resilience our Staff, Branches and Volunteers have shown during these times; and continue to schedule events, evolve policies and procedures and create a vision for the future to ensure our community is strong and safe.

Our Branches and Clubs have produced some fantastic swimming to date which will only be fueled by the performances of athletes in the coming weeks. An incredible five (5) National Swim Series Events have been held in what is turning into another rollercoaster of a year.

Masters Swimming Australia is built from many passionate and dedicated volunteers that we have working across the country. A special thankyou to our MSA President Jane Noake and MSA National Recorder Pauline Samson (please read the special messages below).

This week announced the Brisbane 2023 Olympic Games and tonight we experience the official opening of the 2020 Tokyo Games. Wishing you all good health, enjoyment, and excitement (especially those donning the GREEN and GOLD!!!).

Enjoy your swimming and cheering!

Regards,
Sarah

Thankyou (Mental Health Awareness Months)
A huge thank you to all our wonderful masters swimming community that supported us and each other during our inaugural Mental Health Awareness Month - MAY 2021.
You have connected with one another in so many ways this month, and helped us on our journey to raise awareness of mental health and support the Black Dog Institute by fundraising for mental health research.

MSA Online Club Coach Accreditation Program
The MSA Online Club Coaching Course and Accreditation Program was launched in June 2021 on the new learning management platform, Dita Solutions and already we have over 40 coaches attending the course modules.
You may not know but back in July 2020, a small team of WA staff and Coaches started work on the huge Online Club Coach Workshop project. With a little greenscreen setup and some pool space at HBF Stadium, the team filmed stroke correction videos and interviews.
Over the next few months, with lots of hard work from Kim Tyler and her team, the first pilot version of Workshop was born. After hundreds of tests and edits, the National Coaching Committee and and the National Board of Management endorsed the program and work began on making it available for all states. This MSA Online Club Coach Accreditation Program gives regional and metro coaches alike greater access to professional development opportunities.
You can now enroll to your Accreditation, as PD or/and as a Bridging Course all in one place.

Meet the 6 Million Metre Man - Brian Hall
Since 1st April 1991 Brian has been documenting his swims in his trusty notebook. Brian completed his 6 millionth metre in June 2021. Covid couldn’t slow Brian down where he took to the ocean and swam every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Over the years Brian has clocked up his metres in rivers, lakes, dams, oceans and pools. He has swum the Busselton Jetty event 25 times only missing one year due to work in which wife Pam swam in his place. Thanks to the Bunbury Masters for sharing his story.
Masters swimming does not have to be all about racing against other swimmers. For more individual challenges Masters Swimming have the Vorgee Endurance Awards: E1000 and Million Metres Program.
Congratulations to Darwin Stingers Val Hristova for swimming TWO MILLION METRE and to Devonport Devils David McIvor for completing his first Million Metres.
Postal Swims
Wanting to get some swimming in - why not try one of the great Postal Swims on offer. You may not realise but MSA Postal Swims are run by Clubs so what a better way than support each other and swim at the same time. Plus dates have been extended to give everyone a chance to participate.
Below are 2 facebook posts from Clubs taking part in Postal Swims. Top is from Toowoomba Tadpoles and bottom is from the Devonport Devils. Why not have a go today!
Vale Derek Coghill
Derek was a long standing MSQ official, MSQ Life Member and member of MSA National Technical Committee (2006-2011). Derek completed his Masters Swimming referee’s course in June 1998. He was highly regarded in his field, and was MSQ Technical Director from 2003, serving five years in this role. He was made a Life Member of MSQ and continued to serve not only as a Official but also as a mentor to many officials. We send our condolences to Derek’s wife Wendy, family, friends and the MSQ community.
He will be greatly missed.
