Dear Friends and Fellow Republicans

Olympic Athletes - Then vs Now

Most of us over the age of 50 remember all too well the 1980 US Olympic Hockey Team. How this group of amateurs beat the greatest hockey team ever known to mankind, the Soviet Hockey Team. A bunch of ragtag amateurs - most of whom would never qualify to play in the NHL, publicly humiliated the best that the Evil Empire had to offer.

I was watching a documentary about the Miracle on Ice, and was struck by a quote from one of the US Team Members of the time. He said, and I quote: "As an athlete, I don't think there's a greater reward than to represent your country in any sport".

I look at what that team was able to do, 20 ragtag kids playing together as one, who wanted to represent the best that the USA had to offer, against a group of seasoned veterans. It was an amazing moment in not only sports history, but at our history. Reminds me still at some level of how we beat the British to gain our independence - an army of ragtag soldiers having nothing more than God on their side, against the King and the greatest empire known to man.

And then I look at our Olympic Team now. Athletes like Megan Rapinoe are more interested in tearing down the USA - and then taking a great US Women's Soccer team and losing to a 3rd rate team like Sweden.

Too many of our athletes now are more focused on tearing down the USA, the greatest country ever spawned by Mankind, than on winning at their Olympic event.  US Hammer thrower Gwen Berry is another. The list goes on and on.

All Olympic athletes are there to represent their country. British athletes represent Great Britain. Russian athletes represent Russia. Chinese athletes represent China, etc etc. If our country is so horrible, then why do these "poor oppressed" people (NOTE THE SARCASM) go out there on behalf of the USA? Why don't they move to some other country which has a government structure more to their liking - such as Cuba or Venezuela or China or N. Korea?

They can't leave because they know somewhere deep down inside that the USA is the greatest country ever known to Mankind, and if they ever left, no one would listen to their pedantic rants.

Regional Muster

As many of you may be aware, the 5th Congressional District, Chaired by my good friend Melvin Adams, is hosting a "Regional Muster" to help train and energize activists in the 5th, 6th, 7th, and 9th Congressional Districts.
