Unintentional Weight Loss in Older Adults

The differential is broad, but between 6-28% of the time, a cause is not found. From the Choosing Wisely Campaign, the American Geriatrics Society recommends the avoidance of prescription appetite stimulants or high-calorie supplements for the treatment of anorexia or cachexia in older adults. Know that there is a cachexia syndrome associated with weight loss>5% in 12 months that is associated not only with cancer, but also COPD and chronic kidney disease.
