July 2021

Welcome! I hope this finds you well and that your stores of coping are not yet depleted.

I am delighted to announce - at last! - that my new novel Writ in Blood has a (historically significant) release date.

Meanwhile, my backlist is currently on sale at 25% off on Smashwords until the end of the month. And my perennial favourite novel Butterfly Hunter is now available in hardback!

Please read on for all the details...

"Writ in Blood" coming soon!

Crafting this novel has been a looong labour of love, but at last I’m working towards a release date – and 26 October 2021, the 140th anniversary of the Gunfight at the OK Corral, seems appropriate.

I am all in, as Doc might say, and have commissioned an illustrator, a cover designer – there may even be merchandise! All this is for future newsletters, though. (Apologies for the tease!)

In the meantime, here is the blurb:

Courage. Honor. Loyalty. All fine things, but they’ve led John Ringo to kill a man. He was raised right and he knows he’s not a murderer, but otherwise he’s a mystery even to himself. Doc Holliday claims to have some insights, but Doc is too devoted to Wyatt Earp to spare much attention for the man who’s already lost his soul. Which leaves Johnny Ringo prey to the distractions of a demon. Imaginary or not, if this creature abandons him, too, then surely his sanity is forfeit – and what will his life be worth then?

This Queer Weird West novel follows these three along the complex trails that lead into and out of Tombstone, Arizona in 1881.

ARCs and pre-orders of Writ in Blood will be available on 26 September. If you are particularly interested in ARCs, please do join my Facebook Group

This newsletter is an awesome way to keep a look-out for further details - but you might like to also:

As for genre, this is LGBTQ+ fiction (not a romance, though there’s plenty of love and friendship and sex), and well-researched historical fiction, with a side of supernatural elements.

I hope you find this at least a little bit intriguing! I am excited to share the novel with you in three months’ time. ♥

Meanwhile, back at the ranch: On 26 August I will be announcing a new anthology titled Queer Weird West Tales.

Submissions will open in the new year.

25% off my backlist on Smashwords!

All my current titles are currently 25% off during the Smashwords Summer/Winter Sale. (There are a few free stories there as well.) This sale ends on 31 July, so please take advantage while you can!

Sale on Smashwords!

"Butterfly Hunter" now in hardback!

Meanwhile, the novel of mine that has proved to be the most popular (so far...?) is now available in hardback!

You can find it on Amazon KDP (ISBN-10 1925869261) in your country of choice, including:

If there are other titles of mine you'd like to see in the hardback format, please do let me know

Recommended: "The Only One in the World"

This Sherlock Holmes anthology was edited by Narrelle M. Harris, and she is justly proud of it!

The blurb asks of Holmes and Watson: "But what if they had come from some other place in the world, or another time? How would they differ from Conan Doyle's creations? How similar might they remain?" These stories re-imagine them "in new cultural contexts, in different genders and sexualities, and in stories rich in foreign detail that still reflect their origins".

This intriguing idea makes for a truly excellent anthology, with the contents living up to the gorgeous cover, and a fascinating range of settings. My two favourite stories - at least, this time round - were "The Path of Truth" by Jack Fennell, and "S.H.E.R.L.O.C.K." by Atlin Merrick. But all the stories were strong, and explored interesting alternative takes on the original Holmes and Watson characters.

Having said that, all the stories were definitely "Sherlock Holmes" stories in structure and content - which in one way is a definite strength (and by which I was very impressed), but on the other hand slowed down my reading as I wasn't inclined to read more than two or three at a time. Which isn't a bad thing in itself, mind you.

Very much recommended!

And (as I think I've already mentioned) I'd love you to join my Facebook group!

I have a Facebook group for my friends, readers and fellow travellers, called Life, Libraries, Love and Knitting. We are a small group so far, with a fairly low-key dynamic - while I want to keep the atmosphere relaxed and informal, I would love for more of you to join us!

As you'll gather from the group's name, I don't intend this to be all about me and my writing, but instead about anything in life that we love, whether that's knitting or not!

Please do click the link and ask to join. As required by Facebook, there are rules to agree to and questions to answer - but seeing as that's part of their efforts to keep interactions civil, I trust you won't find it too onerous.

We'd love to see you there!
