Hello travellers,

I should have just arrived home from Auckland, New Zealand as you receive this. But that holiday got cancelled, and even if I had got over there, I would now be stuck because of the trans-Tasman bubble having been suspended.

Travel overseas? I can't even travel outside my house!

What strange times we live in. For the past 3 weeks, I have only ventured outside my house for exercise. I send my fully vaccinated husband out for the groceries, and everything else I get delivered.

What happened last week?

It's still, if not more-so, lockdowns everywhere! Sydney, Melbourne, South Australia, Queensland - I forget, because I can't travel to them anyway.

American Airways has suspended flights to Australia for the next month or so because most of Australia is in lockdown.

Qantas and Virgin have slashed their schedules; REX has even suspended its inter-capital-city 737 flights, and New Zealand has cancelled the trans-Tasman travel bubble for 8 weeks. Things Delta-wise are not going well, particularly in lockdown Sydney.

What's coming up?

Given this weeks track record, whatever the news is, it won't be good. 

With infection rates soaring here, not to mention in even will vaccinated courtries, this virus is sure messing us up, and playing havoc with travel. Layoffs in the Australian travel industry are now inevitable. I'm not confident that companies can out-wait the months before Australia actually has sufficient vaccines available that people want to take.

Mask up, stay at home, keep your distance, and don't go out unless you have to.
