Your Recreation Committee

Hillside Lake Park Recreational Committee was established with the objectives “to promote and sponsor social and recreational gatherings of registered seasonal guests and permanent residents at Hillside Lake Park”.  The group is made up of registered seasonal campers and permanent residents of Hillside Lake Park that volunteer their time and talents.  The officers of the club include president, vice-president, secretary and treasurer.

The Recreation Committee has been responsible for organizing a multitude of events over the years that included bingos, parades, dances, pancake breakfasts, pasta dinners, pig and corn roasts, Hawaiian luaus, food frenzies, scavenger hunts, fishing derbies, Vegas Nights, trick-or-treating, and the list goes on.  Funds raised by the committee from 50/50 draws and other sources fund these events along with the annual fireworks display and summer fest activities such as the foam pit and water slides.

According to our constitution, there must be an annual general meeting and election to fill director vacancies.  Annual reports from the secretary and treasurer are also given at that time.  Due to the pandemic, we were not able to hold the meeting that was scheduled for May 20, 2020.  The Committee has been without a president since Don Roake passed away in 2019.  Don volunteered his time at Hillside for nearly 30 years and is sorely missed.

With the province now in stage 3 of re-opening, we would like to move ahead with scheduling our Annual Meeting for Saturday, August 7th at 3pm.  The meeting will be held outdoors in the open field in front of the main building – BYOC (bring your own chair).  Following current pandemic restrictions, attendance will be limited to 100 people.  While we don’t foresee issues adhering to this guideline, if attendance exceeds the allowable number, we would ask that only one member per site attends.

If you are interested in getting involved with the Recreation Committee you have a couple of different options.  You can join the committee as a director and help in planning and running activities and events in the park throughout the season or you can volunteer to help out as needed.  We always welcome new ideas and energy.  If you are interested in getting involved please send an email to recclub@hillsidelakepark.com to let us know!

The Recreation Committee has met to discuss the remainder of the season and are in agreement that we would like to move ahead with making plans!  We are committed to offering activities that meet current public health restrictions.  Although we are in stage 3 of re-opening we realize that the pandemic is not over and everyone’s health and safety is our top priority.  In order to proceed with activities for the children we need the support of parents and volunteers to make it happen.  We hope we can count on you.

After discussions with park management, the Recreation Committee is confident that we can safely plan the following activities for remainder of the 2021 season:
  • Adult Bingo – Fridays @ 8pm in the pavilion beginning July 30th
  • August Long Weekend - Christmas in August – Lot Decorating – Theme:  Your Favourite Christmas Carol/Song
  • Kids Baseball – Sundays @ 10am at the ball diamond – children must have a parent in attendance – volunteers are needed weekly for this to run
  • Annual Meeting – Saturday, August 7th @ 3pm in front of the store
  • Family Scavenger Hunt – Saturday, August 14th @ 2pm – details TBA
  • Labour Day Spooky Weekend will include lot decorating and trick-or-treating – details TBA
Please check the park bulletin boards for more information about the above activities.

** NOTE **
To ensure everyone’s safety, Public Health protocols must be followed at all events and may include masking, physical distancing and sanitization.

Happy Camping !
