Register for this Thursday's Virtual Film Screening

This upcoming Thursday, August 19th at 6PM, join us for a virtual event featuring the short film by Rose Madrone, “Speaking Out!” In this film, director Rose Madrone follows an inspired indigenous high school student in Portland Oregon, who is influenced by the actions of Lois Gibbs of the 1970’s, - a grassroots activist and organizer in the resistance of devastating pollution in Love Canal, New York.

Following the film we are lucky enough to have a stellar group of panelists to discuss their experiences as clean air activists. Meet Adah Crandall and Malina Yuen, high school students who have been forced to worry about their health and safety on top of their academics amidst our climate crisis. We will also be joined by Mary Peveto, Executive Director of Neighbors for Clean Air. Mary actually helped to get Adah and Malina involved in the activism she currently participates in, and we are beyond excited to have both talking with us during this panel. Read more about our panelists on our blog at this link.

Register for this exciting event at this link, we cannot wait to see you this week!

Thank You to Wade Lange

As board member Wade Lange steps off our board, we want to take a moment to recognize and appreciate his many contributions to Lloyd EcoDistrict and the Lloyd Neighborhood. As our longest serving board member, Wade was a crucial part in the creation of Lloyd EcoDistrict as an organization ten years ago, and we can confidently say that without his dedication to this work we would not be where we are today.

From his work position as a real estate developer at American Assets Trust in the Lloyd, to welcoming Right 2 Dream Too into the neighborhood and working to create a space here, Wade lives up to his reputation of a dedicated change maker. Wade Lange can simply be described as an essential player in making Lloyd EcoDistrict the equitable and successful organization it is today.

To Our Volunteers: Thank You

Starting in the earlier spring months of April and May, to the heat of late July, our volunteers did not disappoint in getting outside to help us make progress on Peace Memorial Park and Lloyd. You cumulatively worked over 360 hours and picked up around 3,300 pounds of trash over the span of four clean-ups throughout the first half of 2021, and we cannot thank you enough for your help. Read more about our most recent July clean-up at this link.

Have you met up with us for a clean-up yet? If not, don’t worry! You can check out our Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter to find updated information on future clean-ups and other events, and don’t forget to keep up to date with our website calendar as well!

Heat Wave Preparedness

This past week another heat wave hit the Pacific Northwest, with temperatures in the Portland area as high as 105 degrees. Those most at risk for heat-induced illness include young children, seniors, people with health conditions, and those living or working outside. Cooling centers were opened for Portlanders to cool off throughout the week and to help avoid heat exhaustion and heat stroke. In preparation for future heat waves, and other emergencies, we recommend everyone sign up for public alerts. PublicAlerts sends information about how to stay safe during an emergency. It can send messages by text, email, or voice message. It's available for anyone who lives, works, or visits the Portland-Vancouver Region. Personal information is kept secure and private.

Register for the LCA Golf Tournament!
