Even though we are all worried about the increase in cases of the Delta variant of COVID-19, we know that for many students, the best place to learn is in school with their teachers and their friends. We are doing everything we can to ensure our students and staff are safe in our schools.

I am glad that on August 16 all Los Angeles Unified schools will open for full-day instruction five days a week, along with recess, after-school programs, lunch and meal breaks with classmates, athletics and extracurricular activities.

Employee Vaccination

As part of our commitment to making our schools the safest place to learn and work, all District employees will be required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by October 15, 2021. In addition, all employees will still be required to participate in regular COVID-19 testing, regardless of vaccination status. You can find vaccination locations here and here.

Online Learning

Our Online Independent Study Program, run through the City of Angels school, is also available for families with medical, social-emotional, or other concerns. Students will receive daily live online instruction for part of the day and complete independent work when not learning directly with a teacher. Support for our Families

The Division of Student Health and Human Services has prepared the "Parent/Caregiver Roadmap for Social-Emotional Well-Being & Academic Success" with all the resources you’ll need to support your students. You can download it here.

Additionally, the U.S. Department of Education has shared this Return to School Roadmap which includes an informative checklist that parents may use to prepare themselves and their children for the safe return to in person learning. You can find it here.

Did you know that...

The District has a face mask accommodation process for students in special education, with medical reasons or other special circumstances. Learn more here.
In partnership with Fender Guitar, LAUSD is offering free enrichment courses to middle school students. Enrollment closes on August 27. Learn more here.

Student Advisory Council

Principal Advisory Council

Last week, I had the privilege of welcoming 14 of my Principals to the first Board District 3 Principal Advisory Council meeting.

These Principals are a comprehensive representation of Board District 3 Principals and Schools ranging from Early Education Centers to Continuation High Schools, and Career and Transition Centers.

We will work hand in hand to evaluate and recommend more relevant and significant policies and enhanced protocols.

I look forward to working with each one of them to prioritize projects, bring more resources to our schools and improve the academic outcomes of all our students.

Redistricting
