Fentanyl Documentary by

In September, Kauai Police warned the public of the increased illegal use of the opioid Fentanyl on the island. Based on the needs in our Kauai community, Malama Pono Health Services is now providing "Overdose Prevention, Recognition, and Response" training. Specifically, MPHS instructs on and distributes Narcan, an opioid reversal agent. We use a Harm Reduction model, which is a philosophy for working with individuals that engage in potentially harmful behaviors (like illicit drug use). The main objective is to reduce the potential dangers and health risks associated with such behaviors, even for those who are not willing or able to completely stop. Harm Reduction uses a non-judgmental, holistic, and individualized approach to support incremental change and increases the health and well-being of individuals and communities.
Anyone is welcome to schedule a training for their organization, business, community, etc. We are currently following all Covid guidelines with the number of attendees. Schedule your training today by calling Mistee or Charles at (808) 246-9577 or visit our Harm Reduction webpage to learn more about our overdose prevention and syringe exchange programs. Malama Pono Health Services is grateful to be a recipient of the Hawaii Community Foundation CHANGE grant. MPHS was awarded $50,000 to be used for both programmatic and operational support. The funding will help MPHS continue to address disparities in healthcare on Kauai, by furthering our reach with the mobile health vehicle and our in-clinic services.
