WELCOME and ANNOUNCEMENTS &
LIGHTING THE CHRIST CANDLE

CALL TO WORSHIP – (responsive)
ONE:  May grace wash over you as you worship.
ALL:  May peace be experienced in all we sing, pray, and   reflect on.
ONE:  May joy fill you so that you are enlightened by God’s delight.
ALL:  May love radiate from every cell, conveying the        amazing truth of God’s goodness.
ONE:  In hope and gratitude, let us worship.

OPENING HYMN: VU #401 Worship the Lord (v. 1, 3 &5)

MORNING PRAYER (unison)
In this place, we profess that you are God who “has created and is creating.”  And so, we come to worship this day to lift our prayers to you, trusting that you are active in the world and in our lives.  We come with all our doubts, for we have many.  We come with all our questions, though they are heavy.  We come just as we are, perfectly imperfect.  We come to worship you, powerful God, for we know that you are not done with this world and that you are certainly not done with us.  Your Spirit is creating still.  AMEN

WISDOM from the PSALMS – Psalm 23

PRAYER OF CONFESSION (unison)
Holy One,
Life is complicated and challenging.
You call us to be our fullest and best selves, and yet often we settle for less.
Time and again, you invite us back to your heart.
Time and again, you welcome us with open arms.
Gather us in today, as we meet in Jesus’ name.  AMEN

OUR CONTEXT. JESUS' WAY. GOD'S LOVE
August 11, 2021

God’s love is ‘power within’, a dignity shared with all of life to become more fully human and part of creation.  Much of our history has celebrated ‘power over’ which has been destroying our planet earth without regard for sustainability and limiting our humanity.
In this month’s stories, listen for the Other Voices which have been silenced for too long.  Stories have been organized around the 3-fold pattern of the journey to the cross:
  1. OUR CONTEXT (pg 2) includes our Communities of Faith, Operation Sharing, Camp Tanner and the work of the OURS Committee re the safety of our extended family in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
  2. JESUS’ WAY (pg 5) includes prayer for each other, book reports of Norwich’s 200-year church anniversary, finding God in the Pandemic, SKYLIGHT Festival and info on Octopus.
  3. GOD’S LOVE (pg 8) helps us become more human as we relate to God, to each other and to creation - our worship, our social and ecological justice initiatives.

11 million people live in Cuba. By mid-July, the country had a staggering average of nearly 44,000 confirmed COVID-19 cases daily. This is how Mission & Service partners, Christian Centre for Reflection and Dialogue and Evangelical Theological Seminary, are opening their doors to help.
