Summer Reading Program 2021

June 21 to August 31

We invite you to get creative... explore art... try something new... and find beauty in diversity!

Thank you for signing up for Summer Reading 2021! If you haven’t had a chance to sign-up yet, just follow the instructions in How to Participate. Remember that Summer Reading is for all ages – babies to adults!

Author Visit - Save the Date!

Friday, August 20th @ Causland Park – 10:00AM
We’re so excited that this is the week for our author visit! Children’s book author and Anacortes native Andrew Root will join us for our first live event of the year! Andrew will read his new book, NERDYCORN, he’ll answer questions, and we’ll have some sparkle fun! Our friends at Watermark Book and Co. will be selling copies of the book (cash and checks only, please) and Andrew will sign them, too. There will even be a surprise or two! We encourage you to bring blankets and hats.

Prize Books Are Ready

Have you stopped by to get your prize book? If you have reached your goal, stop by the Children’s Library and choose your prize book. There are books for all ages and we even have some bonus books this summer. We also have our Super Reader signs. Bring your bingo reading sheet with you so we can enter you into the Grand Prize Drawing, too.

Prize Books will be available throughout August so there is plenty of time to reach your goal.

Grand Prize Drawings
We have some wonderful grand prizes this year for every age group. They include ways for you to get creative and explore books! Special thanks to our friends at Island Optometry for sponsoring the grand prizes for Summer Reading 2021!

Remember the more bingos you complete on your reading log the more chances you have to win a grand prize. Enter throughout August and the winners will be notified on September 8th.

Teens – Teen Pizza & Ice Cream Social
Wednesday, August 18th 3:00pm -  Causland Park
Wrap up Summer Reading at this final event in the park with pizza and ice cream. We’ll share our favorite reads of the summer, and Anacortes High School Librarian Dana John will join Diana Farnsworth for a special preview of upcoming books to look for in fall. Attend this event for 5 entries into the grand prize drawing this summer! Open to all middle and high school students.

Halfway Prizes
Halfway Prizes will also be available throughout August. We look forward to hearing about your summer of reading, exploring, and getting creative! If you’re just getting started on Summer Reading, visit us whenever you are ready.

Virtual Programs
You can find all of the virtual programs from Summer Reading 2021 on our Facebook page and on our website. Tune in to watch any that you missed, or watch your favorites again. There are storytimes, STEM classes, and Be Creative sessions. Happy viewing.

How to Participate

Summer Reading is for all ages, babies to adults, so we invite the entire family to sign-up. There are bingo sheets and reading logs for four age groups: pre-readers, elementary school readers, teens, and adults. All the details are on the library website. The link to get started is here.

You can also email us at lesliew@cityofanacortes.org or call 360-293-1910.

Set your own reading goal and log your reading throughout the summer. Kids can decide on a goal with their grownups. You might choose a set number of minutes, pages or books. Or you may have another goal in mind.

When you are halfway through your reading log, visit the library for your halfway prize. Halfway prizes begin July 15. When you reach your goal, visit the library during the month of August to pick up your free prize book, a Super Reader sign, and enter the Grand Prize Drawing.
