A growing group of community members in the Rockford, Illinois area dedicated to eliminating racism and becoming a community where everyone feels valued.

Good News from the Education Team

The Education Team is pleased to report that Prairie State Legal has agreed to represent students referred by Eliminate Racism 815 who have been recommended for expulsion by Rockford Public Schools. Currently students whose parents can afford to hire a lawyer, have legal representation. Students whose parents cannot afford to hire a lawyer, have no representation. This is an equity issue!

We are also happy to announce that the Rockford Public Schools have hired Dr. Tiffany Brunson as their Chief Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Officer. This is a new position and she will sit on the Superintendent's Cabinet and will lead the district's work to embed equity and culturally sustaining practices into every core function of Rockford Public Schools, ensuring that all students have full and equitable access to the district's programs and resources. She said, "I am committed to creating equitable, inclusive communities for the young people of RPS 205 guided by anti-racist, culturally affirming practices, deep meaningful human connections, intentional decision making and a sense of belonging for students and staff."
