Hello art lovers and collectors!
Good news from my studio on western slope. Actually several little goodies but for now, I am pleased to tell you that my special piece ‘Laura of the High Desert’ is at the O’Hanlon Center for the Arts in Mill Valley, CA. The show is titled Women Artists Making their Mark.
It's a special piece for a couple of good reasons. First, it depicts Great Grandmother Laura Touchon, superimposed over a hand rubbed woodcut of a large yucca tree. I love the image of her the way she stands with full face in the sun, and I also love that this piece came to me during the pandemic when I was locked down in my small apartment in Denver and had very little space to really work on it. Luckily, I had the woodcut of the yucca in my box under the bed, and it was a matter of moving the furniture to be able to project her photo (1904?) onto the surface of the print. She was an immigrant from Switzerland and with her husband Charles, they started over again in Las Vegas, New Mexico and built a ranch and farm house of adobe with their own tenacity and grit;  in addition, she bore seven children. In my life, she is a 'significant women'.

New blog post Rough Sketch has been posted and here are a few of the pieces I refer to in my writing- exploring how white artists depict Race.

"  We are in a fight over the story we tell about America and as an artist,
I want to tell a story that is adding to the arc of justice in even the smallest way. "
