On the weekend of 18th and 19th of September there is going to be multi agency clean up of Barmston Drain in North Hull. This is being led by Groundforce and the Environment Agency with support from local volunteers.

The KKC have been approached to provide the on the water support. The intention will be to access the drain with open boats and supporters on the bank will help drag the debris onto the path for disposal. The club open boats will be there, crewed by adult members and if others have their own boats and are willing to attend then brilliant. This will be a far more challenging undertaking than our usual river clean ups. The drain has been neglected for years and has become heavily contaminated by all types of debris.  Care will be required to prevent injuries and disease, which is why our enthusiastic ‘wombling’ youngsters will not be allowed on the water this time. However there will be opportunities for other members and youngsters, with adult supervision, to help on the bank.

When the drain has been cleared it is intended to invest in it so that it will become a more attractive area for wildlife and residents. This will be high profile event and I know number of local media organisations intend to cover the story so its another great PR for KKC opportunity. More details will be available when known.
