Get on your bikes and ride!

NIAGARA FALLS, ON - Need a little inspiration to take your bike out for a few more rides before summer ends? The Park in the City Committee has a fun, new opportunity beginning September 1. Folks & Spokes brings 30 days of cycling missions, bike safety, and healthy competition to the streets and trails of Niagara Falls.

Prizes will be awarded to the top three cyclists who log the most kilometres during the competition. To kick things off, four bike safety prize packs from Heart Niagara including a bike helmet, bell and set of lights, will be awarded to four lucky participants who complete the advance bonus mission by inviting their friends. There's also a $5 Tim Horton's gift card for the first 50 competitors who ride 5 kilometres.

Whether you've biked for years or are still new to the sport, Folks & Spokes challenges you to get on your bike and ride more often. Weekly missions featuring the City's bike trails and other local bike routes aim to inspire greater confidence and interest in cycling not only as a fun pastime and fitness routine, but also as an alternative to driving.

Weekly missions also feature practical, local information like where to find the City's free bike repair stations and how to travel with a bike on the Niagara Falls Transit system.

Bike safety challenges follow the Ministry of Transportation's Safe Cycling Guide, including hand signals, rules of the road, and the importance of safety equipment like bells, lights, reflectors and helmets. Cycling tips will be featured throughout the competition on signs posted along select local cycling routes, and on the City's Recreation Instagram account @niagarafallsrecreation, for the benefit of competitors and the public-at-large.

Folks & Spokes is open to all residents of Niagara Falls via the free GooseChase mobile app. Complete contest rules and details, along with more local cycling resources can be found at niagarafalls.ca/cycling.
