12 BEST FINE DINING RESTAURANTS IN NYC

Whether you’re splurging for a special occasion or it's just another night of opulence, these are NYC’s best fine dining destinations.

Amber Sutherland-NamakoChristina Izzo & Jake Cohen for Time-Out New York.

In New York City, tabs at our top fine dining destinations can easily meet and exceed the cost of plane tickets to Paris, the latest iPhone or a Schott jacket. In this moneyed town, however, there are plenty of people for whom the best of the best is just their weeknight go-to. It’s kind of bonkers!

For the rest of us, however, those for whom only the most special of occasions merit a sky-high price tag, there is no margin for error. The food, drinks and experience at these rarified destinations must exceed our plebeian expectations and launch us, if even for a moment, into a truly decadent dimension. And these fine dining restaurants, these bastions of gold cards, trust funds and expense accounts do just that. READ MORE

MEMORABLE MEALS

Avra, in NYC, is one of my favorite places to have lunch in the summer. This wonderful Greek restaurant in midtown, transports you to an island villa with  imported limestone and distressed wood floors, stone washed walls, exposed wood beams, and french doors that open to a beautiful flowered courtyard. The open kitchen has an amazing display of fresh fish flown in daily from the Mediterranean. We start with Avra Chips. Traditional crispy zucchini & eggplant chips with tzatziki. Then it is a Romaine Salad, Hearts of baby romaine with a creamy feta, dill, caper dressing. My entree is always Chicken Frites, Grilled sliced chicken breast served with Greek Oregano fries, and poached tomato with tzatziki. All washed down with a delightful Santo Assyrtiko from Greece. A perfect summer day.

FIND YOUR BEST WEEKEND - BUTTERMILK INN + FALLS

A short 90 minute train or car ride from New York City, Buttermilk Falls Inn + Spa is located in Ulster County directly across the Hudson River from Poughkeepsie. This delightful property sits on a 75 acre spread on the banks of the Hudson and yes, there really is a “falls” right on the property. Fields of wildflowers and lush gardens dot the property in the summer months. Perched on a hill with sweeping lawns and views of the river and ponds, Buttermilk is an ideal retreat for a romantic getaway for two, for couples traveling together or for a girls’ weekend. The short drive makes it a great Quick Escape, in Saturday am and out Sunday night, but you’ll want to stay longer at this relaxing and utterly charming Inn. READ MORE
