SNEAK PREVIEW! Cabot Conversations are coming!
We're very excited to announce that next week we'll be launching the first of ten fascinating conversations around climate change in the run-up to COP26. Every episode features two experts from different disciplines, from across the Cabot Institute for the Environment and beyond, plus an artist who will be creating a stunning piece of art as they interpret what you're listening to.

Hear surprising facts, stories, and advice for policymakers, about the emergency we're all facing whilst watching beautiful art, from paintings to poetry, dance to illustrations, created in real time. Watch the 30 minute versions with artists on YouTube and listen to the full hour conversation on all podcast services.


This video is the sneak preview of our first conversation launching next week on the Climate Emergency with ex-Met Office Chief Scientist Dame Professor Julia Slingo and climate scientist Dr Dann Mitchell. Release dates for the whole series are below:

New paper

Eocene to Oligocene terrestrial Southern Hemisphere cooling caused by declining pCO2
This 5 minute video explains a new research paper published in Nature Geoscience that shows that the Eocene - Oligocene transition was driven by a decline in carbon dioxide. The paper was written by Caboteers Dr Vittoria Lauretano, Dr Alan Kennedy-Asser, Professor Paul Valdes, Professor Dan Lunt, Professor Rich Pancost & Dr David Naafs. Read the full paper.

Cabot Institute for the Environment Annual Lecture

What outcomes do we need to see at this year’s United Nations climate talks (COP26) that haven’t happened in previous years? Join us for the Cabot Institute for the Environment’s prestigious Annual Lecture where we will discover three different perspectives and what they think we should particularly be looking out for and paying attention to at this year’s event. Joining us will be:
  • Mya-Rose Craig (Birdgirl), young birder, naturalist, environmentalist & writer
  • Journalist Leo Hickman, Director and Editor of Carbon Brief;
  • Alyssa Gilbert, Director of Policy and Translation at the Grantham Institute for Climate Change and the Environment and chair of the COP26 Universities Network.
  • Cabot Institute Associate Director and University of Bristol lead on COP26, Professor Paul Bates CBE FRS, will be chairing the event.
