The Designer Center Completed
|
|
|
NC State's Industrial Design Program thanked the Facilities Division for its services and hard work in making the Design Center project a success at its recent open house celebration. The newly renovated first floor of 33,000 square feet provides amazing space for studios, classrooms, makerspace, student lounge, conference, and offices. It will be an epicenter of human-centered innovation and learning. This project was made possible due to the collaborative teamwork among In-house Construction, Office of University Architect, Capital Project Management, and the designers from Katherine Hogan Architects and Sigma Engineered Solutions. Facilities Human Resources (FHR) held an offsite retreat at Talley Student Union. During the morning session a representative from Learning and Organizational Development led FHR in several team building exercises, while the afternoon session focused on development of a Mission Statement and Vision for FHR to encompass the Facilities Division Strategic Goals.

Saving Money And Boosting Sustainability

Working with the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Grounds Services now has access to a high-demand greenhouse located at the Horticulture Field Labs on the west side of main campus. The space is used to grow plants from seeds, plugs and cuttings instead of buying from other suppliers. Grounds Services supplies these plants to indoor student spaces such as Talley Student Union, Carmichael Gym, and the Witherspoon Student Center.
