Grand opening set for Sept. 9

The time is finally here! The grand opening for the Sentry Curling Center will take place at 4 p.m. on Sept. 9. The ceremony will include special guests, a ceremonial rock throwing and a bagpiper. All members are invited to attend. The bar will be open and a food truck will be set up outside for those interested in extending the celebration.

Summer project day is Aug. 14
Love to paint? We'll be removing and painting boards around the perimeter of the ice as part of several projects on Aug. 14 starting at 9 a.m. We'd love all the helpers we can gather!

Sign up to volunteer at The Opener
We are hosting our first bonspiel in the Sentry Curling Center on Sept. 10-12. The Opener is expected to include a full 32 teams. This will be a major undertaking for our club hosting a new event -- our first event of this size and first in our new facility! As always, we cannot pull off events like this without lots of support from our membership. We still need plenty of assistance that weekend. Some of the areas needing support include:
- Ice clean-up and preparation
- Meal prep, serving and clean-up
- Food donations - side dishes and, of course, desserts!
- Raffle prize donations and prep

Fall league registration opening soon
A six-week early season league will take place from Sept. 20-Oct. 25. Registration for the mini league will open soon so look for future announcements on the website, social media or via email. Cost for the league will be $120. The following leagues will be offered during this early session:
- Monday, 6 p.m. (7:45 for second draw, if needed), doubles curling
- Tuesday, 6 p.m., Instructional League with Doug Anderson
- Wednesday, 6 p.m., Open League
- Thursday, 6 p.m., Open House/Learn to Curl opportunities

Ride for America
Michelle Bachaus from the Wisconsin Bike Federation contacted our board to request using the Curling Center as a stop for Ride for America. The route included several rest stops along the way, from La Crosse to Green Bay July 30- Aug. 2. The board agreed to grant the request gratis. The facility was used by approximately 350 riders who stopped over the
four days to rest, eat, and lounge before continuing their trek. Some of the riders tented in the park across from the facility. The club was supervised at all times by the staff members of the Bike Federation.
Celebrate Plover
The annual Celebrate Plover took place on Saturday, July 31, and included an outdoor business expo that the club participated in. A significant part of Celebrate Plover is having an opportunity to meet and learn from area businesses and community services. Sandra Kawleski coordinated having the curling club showcased by handing out fliers with dates for upcoming Learn to Curl events, which will take place from 6-8 p.m. on Sept. 23, Sept. 30, Oct. 7, and Oct. 14. Thanks to all the club members who volunteered their time to help with the event.
