Dear Supporters,

We consider this VNY Proposed Redesign a positive step and welcome relief for our neighbors in West Sherman Oaks and Encino. However we remain concerned that the VNY Proposed Redesign is likely to compound impacts on Studio City, East Sherman Oaks, and parts of Encino.*

WARNING FOR STUDIO CITY AND EAST SHERMAN OAKS: The eastern waypoint (WP3) is located on the 101 freeway just east of Hazeltine. Aircraft MUST CROSS WP3 and then continue southeast directly into eastern Sherman Oaks (Ventura Blvd at Woodman), and then to Studio City (between Coldwater and Laurel). Aircraft will be at Ventura Blvd and the foothills within 15 seconds after hitting WP3 if Air Traffic Control doesn't direct them to turn north first. In just 15 more seconds, aircraft will be deep in the Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone between Coldwater Canyon and Laurel Canyon.

We still have many unanswered questions for the FAA, and we are sure that you do too. We’re hoping that FAA will be willing to listen and reconsider their Proposed Redesign so as not to introduce more cumulative impacts from VNY to the southeast SVF.

We wholeheartedly support the intention of the Proposed Redesign, but we can’t support bringing further harm to our communities in Studio City and East Sherman Oaks who also bear the brunt of BUR departures, and so we are asking for a Revision to the Proposed Redesign.

Our suggested revision is as follows:

FAA to revise the VNY Proposed Redesign by making changes that will prevent VNY aircraft from crossing WP3 and flying south of the 101 freeway. We suggest changing the heading at the waypoint to 079; and/or making WP3 a FLY BY waypoint; and/or adding a second heading northeast in the direction of BSHOW; and/or any other measure or combination of measures necessary to achieve this goal.

We hope our neighbors in West Sherman Oaks and parts of Encino who would obtain relief from this VNY Proposed Redesign also support this revision to help our entire community. FAA likes to divide communities to achieve its goal. We ask that our communities stay united.

*Note that the westerly path from VNY also appears to travel into Encino hillside neighborhoods via WP1. Receiving the Proposed Redesign so late from FAA we have not had time to analyze a solution for Encino, but support a plan that would keep jets out of the hillsides and mountains there as well.
