General Synod - 2021 - 2026
Will you stand for election or encourage someone else?’
Nominations are now open for candidates to put themselves forward for a place on General Synod for the next five-year term 2021-2026.

The closing date for nominations is 5pm on 8 Sept 2021.

New Rural Dean for Rotherfield

Bishop Martin has appointed The Revd Julie Sear, the Rector of Hartfield and Coleman’s Hatch, as the new Rural Dean for Rotherfield. You can read more about the appointment here
New Rural Dean for Chichester

Bishop Martin has appointed The Revd Martha Weatherill, Associate Vicar of St Paul Chichester with Westampnett, as the new Rural Dean of Chichester.  You can read more about the appointment here
Appointment to support clergy and their families

Laura Steven has been appointed as Head of Wellbeing for Clergy and their Families (WCF) Laura will be  building on the work of Nicola Canham. In her new role from 1st September,, Laura will oversee the confidential counselling service for clergy and their families, the RPGs and further developing the programme of well-being support and training for clergy in the diocese. New Chapter for Ancient Church

Thanks to a new church partnership programme and great community spirit, St Mary's Sompting has been undergoing a quiet transformation over the past few months and reopens with a week of celebrations - read more here

 

Flower Festivals

As churches across Sussex begin to hold regular services and events again it is especially heartening to see the flower festivals taking place once more. This weekend you could visit St Wulfran's in Ovingdean to enjoy their festival from 13 - 15th August. Download this poster here
Safeguarding Training
Safeguarding officers are required to complete C0 Basic, C1 Foundation and C2 Leadership Safeguarding Training. The Basic and Foundation are online here followed by the C2 Leadership module.  C2 uneeds to be refreshed every 3 years.  If you know that your training is due for renewal, please book on one of the events in September here

Simple Quality Protects – SQP
All parishes are required to complete and keep up to date with SQP.
Remember to use the SQP tool and resources here

SQP is designed to make achieving high standards of safeguarding as straightforward as possible. Every parish is registered and should keep ongoing self-assessment, once Level 1 has been completed by the safeguarding team. The tool can be accessed any time by entering your username and password.

Are you thinking about what next steps to take as you lead your congregations to be more and more generous? Then perhaps you should consider running a “Generosity Week”! The National Giving Team have built a super range of resources and ideas for you to successfully host and run an event.

Fundraising update

Have you looked at easyfundraising yet? We’re working with them to provide you with a simple way to generate additional income for your church. easyfundraising enables people to support good causes simply by doing their normal online shopping.

St Leonard and St Ethelburga have raised an amazing £2315 so far and PCC treasurer Janet told us: ‘We have been promoting easyfundraising for some time and really benefitted from the donations. It’s good to be able to get something for the church when shopping online and at no extra cost.’ Well done to them! Find out more here

Plant a tree for Jubilee

The Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC) is a unique tree planting initiative created to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022 which invites people from across the United Kingdom to “Plant a Tree for the Jubilee.” We hope parish churches will take part  - you can find out more here
