Otley Road Carriageway Resurfacing
Bradford Council has notified us by letter that resurfacing work will start very shortly on the section of road between the roundabout at the top of Park Road /Warren Lane and Spring Lane.

Phase A is work on the roundabout on Sundays 15th and 22 August from 7.30 am - 7.00 pm. The letter says, "There will be no access through the roundabout to Otley Road."

Phase B is work between the roundabout and Spring Lane, which will be carried out on weekdays Monday 16th - Friday 20th and Monday 23rd & Tuesday 24th August from 9.30 am - 7.00 pm.  "The full extent will be closed to traffic on 16/17th and on 23/24th.  Access for businesses and residences will be maintained when safe to do so, but long delays are possible.  Areas will be protected by smaller closures and / or traffic lights as the work progresses.  Access will change each day and possibly during the day"
In light of the roadworks, Church Café on Thursday 19th is cancelled.  Tuesday Café will open as normal.  Tuesday and Thursday Café will operate normally the following week.
Mission Giving
We recently sent £300 to Kathryn's Mercy Home, a UK based charity which supports the work of Rev J Jeyapaul with Dalit children and families in Tamil Nadu, South India.  This was on top of our regular monthly giving.  In response, this update:  "
Thank you so much for this; your church’s extra gift is greatly appreciated, and will certainly be put to good use. As you will have seen, Rev. Jeyapaul’s work has continued, and valuable support has been given to the communities the hostel girls and elderly ladies come from, as well as other people in the district. He has been greatly encouraged by the support you and others have given, and we are particularly excited that some of the work is done in partnership with the local authorities."

We have sent £300 to Bingley Community Kitchen (BCK) as part of our mission funding.  Their letter of thanks included this update:

"Over the summer holidays we are providing take away meals and a social market stall of fresh, dried, tinned and frozen foods for families who are encouraged to make a contribution of £2. They bring a bag along and choose the food they would like, thereby giving them overall responsibility for choosing the food their family would like to eat.

Although BCK has secured some support through Fare Share and the Store House, it is still necessary to buy the fresh foods such as cheese, eggs, bacon, cooked meats, milk and butter, frozen foods such as vegetables, fish fingers, chicken, etc. and all the ingredients for the take away meals. Therefore, your donation will go a long way to supporting this so thank you so much.

Hopefully our next activity will be to provide monthly afternoon teas for the elderly at St Aidan’s Church as this is more accessible and has parking facilities."

BCK is now a registered charity.  Their website can be viewed at  https://bingleycommunitykitchen.org.uk/

If anyone wants to donate to this they can do so via the church in the usual way – electronically with a description of what it is for, or a cheque made payable to The Eldwick Church to Sharron, and we can pass it on.

We have also sent a cheque for £100 to Junior Mission for All (JMA), part of the Methodist Church mission programme.
The August edition of the Airedale Circuit Newsletter can be viewed HERE

Please note, if you have collected a recent printed copy of the Circuit Plan Sept - Nov, the entry for Eldwick on 3rd October at 9.15 has an error.   The officiant should read 'Rev Barbara Walls'.
The Bingley Foodbank is currently short of long life milk, tinned custard and jam.
Please close the gate!
If you are the last car out of the car park, please remember to close the gate and latch it at the top.  Many thanks
Friday Night Bible Takeaway is taking a break for the Summer and will return in September.
Holy Communion has now resumed
We are gradually returning to regular communion services as part of our worship, being mindful of safe practices. This has been agreed by the trustees.
Providing government restrictions do not prevent it, the plan is as follows:

5th September     9.15  Informal communion service
19th September   10.30  Family communion
3rd October          9.15  Informal communion service
17th October        10.30  Family communion

These will be alternately led by Methodist and Anglican ministers. (We do not plan to use the BCP Anglican communion service at the moment, rather we will use a more up to date and accessible form of service).
