Messages and updates for the members of Ingham Health Plan

Read on to learn where to go for urgent care, what to do if you don't know who your primary care provider is, and to learn about which vaccinations adults need to stay healthy throughout the year!

Your IHP membership includes access to Urgent Care & Fast Care Clinics:

Sparrow Fast Care is a new choice for basic medical care for conditions that are non-life threatening. This may include cold and flu symptoms, sore throats, ear infections, urinary tract infections, vomiting and diarrhea, insect bites, minor burns, minor rashes, and wound care.

Patients must be 18 months or older. X-rays, stitches, and treatment for broken bones are NOT available at FastCare.

Urgent Care Centers are a good option if you have an injury or illness that requires immediate care, but is not serious enough to go to the emergency room. Urgent Care Centers should not be used for routine visits. IHP encourages you to ask your doctor’s direction on where you should go for care. Most doctors’ offices have someone on-call who can give you advice 24 hours a day.

On our website there is a list of all of the urgent care clinics you can visit with your IHP membership. Call ahead for their most recent business hours.

August is National Immunization Awareness Month (NIAM).

This annual observance highlights the importance of getting recommended vaccines throughout your life. You have the power to protect yourself and your family against serious diseases [like whooping cough, cancers caused by HPV, and pneumonia] through on-time vaccination.

During NIAM, Ingham Health Plan encourages you talk to your doctor, nurse, or other healthcare professional to ensure [you, your child, your family] are up to date on recommended vaccines.

We also encourage you to visit CDC’s Interactive Vaccine Guide, which provides information on the vaccines recommended during pregnancy and throughout your child’s life.

As your children head back to school this fall, make sure vaccination is at the top of your checklist. August is also a key time to make sure you are up to date on all the vaccines you need to stay healthy. Use CDC’s adult vaccine assessment tool to see which vaccines might be right for you.

During NIAM, Ingham Health Plan will be sharing information and resources on social media to highlight the importance of vaccines. Help us spread the word! Follow the conversation on our social media pages (links near the footer for all accounts), and use #ivax2protect to share why you choose to vaccinate.

What about locally? The Ingham County Health Department (ICHD) has a vaccination clinic. We encourage members to reach out to them directly if you have any questions about receiving the vaccines you need. They have an email listed on their website and they can be reached by phone at 517-887-4316.
