Paul at The Palms - Pastor Paul Whitlock

Pastor Paul's Ponderings
Three steps forward and two steps back! That’s a phrase I have used throughout my life when describing situations that don’t seem to be going in the direction in which I want. It is as if we literally have taken three steps and then have to go backwards. Going backwards seems so hard after these steps moving forward.

This certainly applies to dealing with Covid.

All along in this pandemic we have stated that we will follow CDC guidelines and not what governors or presidents say. Comments from politicians are often just that, political. While the CDC is not totally separated from politics, I do trust that their guiding principles are based on science and not reelection.

CDC is recommending that we wear masks inside for large group activities (like worship). And so, we have followed that recommendation. Plus, we are trying to provide safe social distancing. What makes this round a little different is that the CDC tells us that this new variant of Covid, while more contagious, is less likely to cause hospitalization or death for vaccinated people.

So, get vaccinated. Wear a mask. Be smart in your social interactions. It’s the only way to start moving three steps forward again.

Shalom, Paul

A Palm Reader's Look into the Future

Interested in singing in a choir or a small ensemble? Contact Pastor Jim! In Ah-gust, we’ll have an Ah-semble with all who are interested. Whether you're a trained musician or couldn’t make an okay chorale (ha!), you are welcome to come and make a joyful noise. Rehearsals will be Sundays at 9:00 a.m. in the Music Room.

This Sunday, August 15, Pastor Jim will be preaching. Of all the things for which Solomon could have asked, he asked for wisdom. Read 1 Kings 3:3-14.

It’s still not too late to register for our retreat which is September 7-9. The theme is Antiracism Training. Cost is $295 (double occupancy). Scholarships are available. Check the church website or call the church office for more information.

A return to mask-wearing might bring up some grief for us.
See how our lives grow around our grief.
