LAH Town Wide (Virtual) Town Hall Meeting on Community Fiber  - Tuesday August 31, 2021 - 6 PM

The Mayor and LAH council is organizing a special study session to help educate residents about LAHCF.

A post card mailer will be sent out to all residents with information about this event.  This would be a great event to attend and speak in support of LAHCF during the public comment or question period.  We hope to offer some time during the study session to engage all of those participating to sign up for the newsletter and how to connect with neighborhood champions.

Please review the card sent in the mail from the town about this meeting or visit the town website for full details. The link to the meeting will be https://bit.ly/August31StudySessionCCLAH

Contacting your LAH Council Members and support LAHCF

It is always valuable that the LAH council hears your support for LAHCF. You can always send a letter of support for this agenda items and title the email Item 6A - Master Access Agreement.  The general letter to all of the council members with the following message ideas:
  • First explain your frustrations with your current internet provider if you have them
  • Explain that you want to see more and faster internet options in LAH
  • You have researched LAHCF and interested to become a subscribing member of LAHCF or champion and wish to obtain super high speed 1-10 gigabit fiber service at your home
  • You are excited to have Los Altos Hills become the leader in residential broadband in the entire nation to serve as a model for member community owned and operated fiber internet.
  • LAHCF Master Access agreement should allow LAHCF to easily and quickly expand it member owned and operated network to all LAH residents who want service using town's Right of Ways, town managed service easements and PUEs.
You can voice for your support for community owned and operated Gigabit (or higher) broadband in Los Altos Hills by sending an email to All Council Members at:

citycouncil@losaltoshills.ca.gov

Please also CC LAHCF at info@lahcommunityfiber.org so we can review any support letters that residents have sent in.

LAHCF is not asking for any town funded support, but simply asking that the town and planning department grant LAHCF encroachment access rights into the public Right-of-Ways,  town managed service easements and  Public Utility Easements so we can build our LAHCF network.  This will be accomplished with a LAH-LAHCF Access agreement and granting of individual project encroachment permits.

Feel free to reach out LAHCF with contact information listed below or visit the LAHCF Website if you have additional questions.

We thank you for your passionate support and we look forward to getting the LAHCF fiber assets in the ground quickly so we can serve you with the fastest residential broadband in America!

Please forward this email on to your neighbors and encourage them to join the newsletter list so they can become subscribers in the LAHCF network too.

Sincerely,

LAH Community Fiber and Next Level Networks

Champion of LAHCF Neighborhood Champions!

We would like to specially recognize one of our 45+ neighborhood champions who worked tirelessly for months now on his neighborhood fiber build project and now helping to championing connecting fiber segments that will help to light up his fiber segment.

Johannes Schmidt and his wife and two kids (now both in college and grad school) have now lived in beautiful Los Altos Hills for 25 years.  Johannes is a software guy and self-proclaimed "nerd" who has both founded a few small companies (since acquired), and worked in some of the largest silicon valley firms.  Johannes enjoys home improvement projects including electrical, plumbing, networks, home-automation, and anything else where he can learn something new.

When he first moved to Los Altos Hills, it was still dial-up modems but he soon moved to ISDN.  Although ISDN was not a lot faster, the "always-connected" feature was a big improvement.  Eventually AT&T was able to provide UVerse DSL, offering 50mbit/sec down and 5mbit/sec up.  This was a great improvement over ISDN, but the service has simply not kept pace with his needs for things like viewing his home-based 4K cameras from work.   The limitations have only gotten progressively more difficult with the recent work-from-home arrangement exposing problems with conference calls, downloading and uploading large work files (often takes hours -- when it succeeds), as well as broadband data caps with his family now using the internet so much more.

Johannes (and his neighbor) contacted both AT&T and Comcast in an attempt to get better along his street, but after some time both declined to even provide a quote.  This is why he is so excited to upgrade to a LAHCF fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) solution with incredible two-way performance, no data caps, and most importantly the ability to grow over time as his family's needs grow.

The figure below shows two neighborhood projects that he is working as champion for.  The first is his original neighborhood called Nicole Lane/Summer  hill build.  He is now is also helping as champion for the East Sunset Build.  Both of these segments will connect to the already funded segment that ends at the Old Altos Rd and Burke Rd.  Click on the links above to get more details on each of those projects.

We invite anyone on this proposed route to contact Johannes if you have an interest either being an early backbone angel with reimbursement options or simply a future regular member/subscriber on this backbone link.  He can be reached at:

johannes@schmidtparty.com or by phone at 408 621-0091.

You can often catch Johannes on our weekly LAHCF neighborhood champion calls that happen at 10:30 AM each Friday morning.
