Notification: Save the date: Review of the draft Nature Futures Framework

Dear IPBES members, observers and other interested stakeholders,

I am pleased to announce that the draft Nature Futures Framework and methodological guidance are planned to be open for external review from 6 September to 31 October 2021.

You will recall that the IPBES Plenary, at its 8th session, in decision IPBES-8/1, approved the interim workplan of the task force on scenarios and models for the intersessional period 2021–2022, which includes further development of the nature futures framework for catalysing the development of the next generation of scenarios for biodiversity and ecosystem functions and services, with a view to submitting to the Plenary, for its further guidance at its ninth session, the foundation of the nature futures framework and submitting to the Plenary at its tenth session, a report on further work as well as, for its information, related methodological guidance.

The work plan also foresees that the process of further developing the nature futures framework will include an external review directed at Governments and experts, as well as consultations regarding the draft nature futures framework and methodological guidance. Accordingly, the following online meetings are planned during the review period:

(i) An online dialogue workshop with Government representatives and task force experts, on 4 October 2021. National focal points will be encouraged to invite a small number of Government representatives or experts to participate in the meeting;

(ii) An online dialogue workshop for stakeholders, on 6 October 2021;

(iii) An online dialogue workshop on recognising and working with indigenous and local knowledge in scenarios and models, in the end of September 2021.

Information on how to register as a reviewer and for the relevant meetings mentioned above will be shared in the beginning of the review period.

I thank you in advance for your participation in the review and your continued support to IPBES.

Yours sincerely,

Dr Anne Larigauderie | Executive Secretary
