Hooray 🎉Week 5 of Summer Bridge has concluded! Throughout the program, staff members, coordinators, and interns all have come together to finalize our second to last week with daily activities, surprises, love boxes and entertainment for all. This was our 10th year of running Summer Bridge Program at MS223.

Arete Showcase 📷 Summer 2021
Our Summer Showcase of Student Talent and Learning took place August 5th.

The on-site showcase was run by students, who were able to present their work, talents, and learnings to other enrichment clubs and high school interns.

The showcase was conducted while still following all COVID-19 guidelines.

Field Day:
Happy Fridays this summer at MS223! Since the beginning of the program, many activities have been created for all students every Friday during enrichment hours.

On August 6th, students had the chance to relive field day activities that brought joy to the environment. Stations were set up all around the gym and playground for every enrichment club while still following COVID-19 guidelines.

Love Boxes:
As we finished off the program, staff members, coordinators, and interns had an amazing time distributing love boxes to all students - a project supported by a Better.com donation.

All love boxes included candy, school supplies, books, and different MS223 & Arete gear.

We’ve also included a special thank you note to all families in appreciation for assisting with Summer Bridge.

Weekly, students have been receiving special lunches for attending Monday-Friday, to celebrate their perfect attendance. Every perfect attendance student was able to delight in a slice of pizza as seen here.

Interview with Parent Coordinator Wanda Hill

What is your role as parent coordinator? “As the parent coordinator I build relationships with the families of students and attempt to assist them with various issues that may hinder them from helping their child be a productive student. Arete Education has taken on a lot in this area so I now am able to focus on workshops and presentations that will educate parents and families on the numerous services available to them. I assist parent volunteers (Parent Association and Title One executive board members) in their quest to engage parents and offer them educational and social workshops.”

What will be happening during the school year? “For the upcoming school year, we will have two parent meetings. A virtual Town Hall and an in-person workshop.”

What are some things being worked on?
  • Eye exams & free glasses for students

  • NYC ID for families

  • Paint and Sip

  • Homeless Prevention

  • Vaccination & Covid Testing Information

  • Cooking classes for parents
