Help shape Council decisions
To encourage greater community participation, Council has recently decided to host public forums outside of scheduled meetings.
Public forums are an opportunity for you to talk to Council about business items important to you and the Southern Highlands community. They provide an opportunity for residents to have their say, for or against, an item on the agenda before it is considered by Council.
Public forums will be held 30 minutes before scheduled meetings of Council.
Simply fill out the form on our website and return it to us for consideration by 4.30 pm two business days prior to the meeting.

Black summer bushfire recovery grants
Council is working on an application for the Black Summer Bushfire Recovery (BSBR) Grant Program, but we need your help.
The BSBR Grant Program is open to councils, businesses and community groups impacted by the 2019/20 bushfires.
Together with key stakeholders, we’ve identified 12 projects that can help improve recovery and resilience in our community.
Before we proceed any further we’re checking in to make sure we’re on the right track.
Complete the online survey before 4 pm on Wednesday 18 August to let us know about the projects that matter to you.

COVID-19 financial support is available
Our community is facing a particularly challenging time with many businesses and workers particularly hard hit.
During the week we kick-started a COVID-19 Financial Relief Package that’s designed to help Highland residents and businesses impacted by the pandemic.
The relief package includes a six-month deferment of rates and charges for eligible businesses, households, community and sporting groups.
We’ll also be consulting about full-fee reductions for outdoor dining venues, including businesses displaying footpath signage and those requiring health inspections.
To learn more about Council’s Financial Relief Package visit our website.
The NSW Government is also offering financial support:
For businesses
- There are different support packages available to micro-businesses, small to medium businesses, sole traders and small non-profits depending on your annual turnover. Visit nsw.gov.au for more information or call Service NSW on 13 77 88.
- Tailored payments are also available to support businesses in the creative arts sector with the cost of running productions. Visit the Create NSW website for more information.
- Additional grants are available for accommodation providers who can demonstrate room cancellations during the school holiday period. More information is available at nsw.gov.au.
For individuals
- For workers, the COVID-19 Disaster Payment is available for those who have lost eight hours or more of work per week because of stay-at-home orders, movement restrictions, being stood down, losing their job or having hours reduced. Visit the Services Australia website for more information.
- There is also protection from eviction for tenants who have been financially impacted by COVID-19. Landlords can also claim land tax relief if they reduce the rent of lockdown impacted residential and commercial tenants. Visit nsw.gov.au for more information.
Looking after your mental health during these challenging times is important. Support is available for individuals and businesses who need it.
We appreciate this is a difficult time for everyone however together we’ll come through this.

Exploring local history
Love learning about local history?
Wingecarribee Public Libraries is constantly updating its Local Studies Information Corner.
With everyone spending more time at home, our librarians are curating a local history blog with treasures from the Local Studies Collection.
It’s a great place to learn more about our Shire as well as find hints, tips and tricks for your own deep dive into local history.
For those that prefer to browse in person, the Local Studies Collection is open between 2 and 4 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. You’ll find it upstairs in the Old Town Hall on Bendooley Street in Bowral. COVID Safe measures are in place.
