You're invited! The Empire Clean Cities 12th Annual Stakeholder Meeting. This year's event will feature a networking hour, panel discussions, updates on local initiatives and funding opportunities, and more.

The event is held in conjunction with the NYC Parks Annual Equipment and Vehicle Show, which gives you a firsthand look at vehicles and equipment with alternative fuels and emissions reducing technologies. Due to COVID-19, this year our event will be held outside under the Unisphere in Flushing-Meadows Park.

President Biden Signs Executive Order for 50% of All New Car Sales to be Electric by 2030 
On August 5th, 2021, President Joe Biden signed an executive order requiring 50% of all new passenger cars and light trucks sold to be electric by 2030. This includes battery-electric, plug-in hybrid electric, or fuel cell electric vehicles. Additionally, the EPA and U.S. Department of Transportation are mandated to address the previous rollbacks of near-term fuel efficiency and emissions standards.

Calling all downstate fuel users! Does your fleet use biofuel or biodiesel? If so, we'd love to speak with you!

Empire Clean Cities is working with the New York Corn and Soybean Growers Association to help promote upstate corn and soy production that helps feed biofuel stocks, as well as downstate biofuel users. Funding Opportunities

The goal of this funding opportunity is to accelerate the development of new or enhance/increase existing anaerobic digestion capacity and infrastructure in the United States. Deadline to apply: October 7th, 2021.

New York State Volkswagen Settlement Funds: Current Programs
Rebate incentive funding is now available for fleets and businesses in NYC Industrial Business Zones (IBZs) for the replacement of older, diesel-fueled trucks with alternative fuel or electric vehicle technologies. Funding available from $12,000 to $185,000 per truck replacement, depending on fuel type and truck class size.
*UPDATE: Funding has been exhausted for Class 8 PHEV, HEV, CNG, and Propane Vehicles*
 
NYTVIP provides vouchers to fleets across New York State for the replacement of older diesel vehicles with the purchase or lease of electric, conventional hybrid electric, compressed natural gas, or propane medium- and heavy-duty vehicles. Voucher amounts are based on a percentage of the incremental cost of the vehicle.

"In-depth Q&A: The IPCC’s sixth assessment report on climate science"
On August 9th, the United Nations’ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) published its sixth assessment report (AR6), which concludes that it is “unequivocal” that humans have warmed the planet, causing “widespread and rapid” changes to Earth’s oceans, ice and land surface. 
"GM to bring electric cargo van, medium-duty truck to market"
General Motors plans to add two new electric vehicles, an electric Chevrolet cargo van similar in size to the current Chevrolet Express van and a larger medium-duty vehicle, to its commercial vehicle lineup as it continues to expand its electric platform to meet its goal of launching 30 EVs globally by 2025. 
"U.S. renewable diesel capacity could increase due to announced and developing projects"
U.S. production capacity for renewable diesel could increase significantly through 2024. In 2020, U.S. renewable diesel production capacity totaled nearly 0.6 billion gallons per year, or 38,000 barrels per day.
