Late Summer Newsletter

August 22, 2021

Hi everyone,
It’s surprising how quickly this year seems to have flown by, and pretty hard to believe it’s already August. Autocross season is wrapping up soon and then we plan to have a few gravel RallyCross events, and maybe finish up with another Year-Ender Road Rally.

In other news, I’ve announced to the Board that I’ll be stepping down at the end of the year. This means I’m eligible for the nomination committee, so if you’re interested in serving on the Board you can email me or send one to the Region at arcticalaskascca@gmail.com

A word from the Assistant Regional Executive

Hi Everyone,
Each year we must select a nominating committee for elections at the annual meeting in October. Each year this requirement sneaks up on us because it is currently scheduled in the meat of our competition season. We feel this is too early in the year. The following amendment to the bylaws proposes moving this process back by about 6 weeks. The proposed date changes are outlined below (original dates in parenthesis). All other text remains the unchanged.

"Article VI: Directors The Directors shall appoint a nominating committee by AUGUST 15th (July 1st) of each year. The committee shall consist of 3 to 5 members, none of whom may be seeking election. The nominating committee shall recommend a full slate of Officers and Trustees who are to be elected and shall submit its report to the Secretary not later than SEPTEMBER 15th (July 25). The report of the nominating committee shall be published to the membership by OCTOBER 1st (August 15). Nomination by petition shall be as follows: Any five (5) members of the Region may nominate a candidate for any office; such nomination must be in writing, signed by the nominators and by the nominee and delivered to the Secretary on or before OCTOBER 1st (September 10)."

What a summer!

As many of you know, I took a bit of a step back from the autocross committee this year because there was so much more on my plate- work is a bit crazy because of the pandemic, I got engaged, moved in with my fiancé, and am in the process of selling my condo. We were lucky enough to have some great people step up to put on a full season of events- Terrance Pearson, Chad Barnes, and Ken Martens have done a wonderful job. As usual, the competition has been fierce- rarely has the podium for any class been more than a second apart from each other. Accordingly, some of the championship places are really close, and will be decided in the last two events of the season, events 7 and 8, a blowout weekend finale held September 18th and 19th. you can sign up here and here on MotorsportReg.Com.

If you are looking for an opportunity to get more involved, there are many ways to do so. Kent Hamilton, our revered Regional Executive, will be leading a committee to develop a slate of candidates for our board of directors election. Talk to Kent if you would like to help with the committee, or would like to serve on the board. Tired of working corners? We have training opportunities for Solo Safety Stewards, Rallycross Safety Stewards, Timing and Scoring, and Event Chair positions. It's always good to cross train, so that we can be more flexible with events and we all don't have to do the same job every event. Who knows, maybe you can have interesting conversations with a group of large motorcycle enthusiasts! Feel free to reach out to any of the board members or event officials (they are often the same people) for more information. This is a volunteer organization, and we can always use the help!

With August well under way, we need to look towards our annual meeting, held in October. This is when we will elect the board (usually a slate of candidates developed by the nominating committee), and put forward any amendments to our bylaws. I heartily encourage all member to attend- it is currently scheduled for October 7th. We are not sure yet if it will be online or in person yet.

Here are the standings of those who may qualify if they attend one or both of the last two events- each driver needs at least five events this season to qualify (if all events are held).
