Select Cub Scout Elective Adventures Retiring
Effective May 2022
As part of our ongoing mission to streamline and simplify the Cub Scout Adventure program, we have identified the following 19 Elective Adventures that will be retired from the program effective May 31, 2022.
Why the Change: These have been identified as the lowest earned within their rank, with the lowermost being earned by less than 3% of eligible youth.
Interim Eligibility and Inventory: All 19 Adventures are still eligible to be earned during the 2021-2022 program year. However, inventory is limited and will only be available while supplies last.

Every year, the National Eagle Scout Association bestows scholarships upon Eagle Scouts pursuing higher education. These scholarships are made possible by generous donors and NESA members that help the alumni organization to continue developing young adults beyond their traditional Scouting experience.
Some scholarships are part of the Glenn A. and Melinda W. Adams Eagle Scout Service Project of the Year awards.
Other scholarships Eagle Scouts who meet certain eligibility requirements can apply for include: Lawrence S. and Mabel Cooke Scholarship
One scholarship of up to $48,000 (up to $12,000 per year for four years) and four $25,000 scholarships (up to $6,250 a year for four years) awarded annually to an Eagle Scout who has shown academic performance, financial need and active participation in school and Scouting activities. Established by Lawrence S. Cooke in memory of his late wife, Mabel Cooke. National Eagle Scout Association Scholarship
$5,000 scholarships awarded on a regional basis to Eagle Scouts who have shown active participation in school, Scouting activities and community service. Hall/McElwain Scholarship
$5,000 scholarships awarded on a regional basis to Eagle Scouts who have shown active participation in school, Scouting activities and community service. Palmer Scholarship
Three $2,500 scholarships awarded to Eagle Scouts who have shown active participation in school, Scouting activities and community service.
The application window for scholarships this year will open in December. At that time, check the national Eagle Scout Association website to find applications.
Registered adult leaders who have completed Youth Protection Training and the training courses for their program, which are outlined below. Available in Red $1.69 for Cub Scout Leaders or Green $1.79 for Scout's BSA Leaders. Available for pick up in the Arlington Heights Scout Shop. Must show your BSA scouting profile training page for proof of completion to purchase.
What are the program-specific requirements?
These requirements are for adult leaders. The emblem may be worn only in connection with the emblem of office for which training has been completed. In other words, if you’re an assistant Scoutmaster and a Venturing crew Advisor, but you’ve only taken training for the assistant Scoutmaster role, you would only wear the trained patch on your Boy Scout uniform — not on your Venturing uniform.
Cub Scouting: Position-Specific training for your position. (Pack Trainers take Pack Committee Challenge and Fundamentals of Training.)
Boy Scouting:
Scoutmasters and assistant Scoutmasters: Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmaster Position-Specific and Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills
Coaches and assistants: Varsity Coach Position-Specific and Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills
Varsity committee members: Team Committee Challenge
Venturing and Sea Scouts:
Advisors and assistants: Venturing Advisor Position-Specific
Crew and ship committee members: Crew Committee Challenge
All adults in ships: Sea Scout Adult Leader Basic
Chartered organization representatives: This Is Scouting and Training the Chartered Organization Representative.

New Award – EPA 50th Anniversary
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), as part of a public awareness campaign to celebrate its first 50 years, has partnered with the Boy Scouts of America to create an award for members of troops, crews, and ships. This new award will recognize youth who research and learn about the subjects of human health and the environment, as the EPA develops its vision for the next 50 years.
Objective: The objective of the EPA award is to combine a variety of disciplines to challenge and educate youth; introduce them to the breadth of the EPA’s involvement in environmental protection and conservation; and encourage them to research, investigate, experiment, demonstrate, survey, and study air pollution, water pollution, solid and hazardous waste, and ocean dumping.
