Does English Rehab Guideline Have a Place in US Healthcare?

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), based in England, published a draft guideline about increasing patients’ rehabilitation support after traumatic injury, including limb loss. Rehabilitation following traumatic injury should focus on the person’s goals and help them to resume his or her life, whether that involves work, education, or activities, according to the draft recommendations. Post-amputation rehabilitation services in the United States can be inconsistent, often with limited physical and occupational therapy and mental health support.
