Excessive Heat Warning – Please conserve electricity

The Village of Tarrytown has been tracking the current excessive heat conditions in the NY Metro, Westchester and Tarrytown area. While there are no major power outages in our area, based on the weather forecast for high temperatures, electricity consumption will remain high for the next 3 days, through Friday night, August 13, 2021. We urge everyone to take all possible precautions to conserve electricity, so that we do not lose electricity which would make conditions much worse for all who may be affected. Help us prevent power outages.

Steps to reduce electricity use include but are not limited to:
• Turn off lights when they are not needed.
• Turn up the temperature on your air conditioners to 72 or 75 degrees or higher, depending on how much your physical conditions can tolerate. This will use less electricity to maintain a cool, tolerable temperature in your home and work space.
• Turn off computers, televisions and other electronic devices when they are not in use.

At this time, the Village is not planning on opening a cooling center, but will reevaluate that when and if it is necessitated by power outages that may occur around the Village.
We will keep the Village informed if power outages occur and if we are planning to open a cooling center.
We thank you for your consideration and cooperation.
