This week was the second of the sitting fortnight. Once again, we saw the Government refuse to take responsibility for their failures.

A key issue of debate was Liberal Party members spreading COVID misinformation throughout the community. Any undermining of advice from health professionals must be challenged.

Unfortunately, the ACT has entered lockdown for the first time in over a year. I will be staying in Canberra until the next sitting fortnight to ensure our community has a voice at the Federal level.

Vaccines for Construction Workers

As the virus continues to spread throughout and beyond Sydney, the State Government still imposes a double standard for construction workers in Western Sydney, including Werriwa.

With workers from all parts of Sydney intermingling on construction sites, there should be one rule for all.

2022 Australia Day Awards

Nominations for the 2022 Australia Day Awards are now open.

The Australia Day Awards are presented annually to local citizens, groups and businesses who have made outstanding contributions to the community.

Awards include Citizen of the Year, Small Business Award, Senior Citizen Award and more.

Liverpool Art Society Exhibition and Werriwa Art Prize

Entries for the 24th Annual Liverpool Art Society Exhibition are now open. This exhibition has been presented at Casula Powerhouse since 1998, and promotes and celebrates the creative talent of our local region.

The exhibition includes the Werriwa Art Prize which I award each year to an artwork that reflects the Werriwa electorate. The winning artwork will receive $500 and grace the cover of my annual Christmas card.

Red Nose Day

Today is Red Nose Day.

Funds raised on Red Nose Day for more than 30 years have resulted in an amazing 85 per cent reduction in sudden infant deaths. That’s 10,857 babies saved and counting.

None of this would have been possible without the incredible public support for Red Nose Day. I urge you to buy a red nose and help Red Nose Australia in this very important fight.

Bradfield City Name Review

I believe that it is in the public interest that the name for Sydney’s third city, currently proposed as Bradfield City, be renamed to an Indigenous figure or significant indigenous term through consultation with the local Aboriginal Land Councils.

The city will eventually grow into Sydney’s third city and a gateway to Australia for visitors coming from all around the world. What better way to welcome those visitors than with a uniquely Australian indigenous name.

I encourage a review of the naming of the city and I also encourage everyone to make a submission to the proposal of the name Bradfield on the NSW Government Website with the link below.

Vinnies Support

As the health and economic impacts of COVID-19 continue to be felt across NSW, many people experiencing poverty and disadvantage are facing additional financial pressure. At the same time, households accustomed to making ends meet are facing economic hardship for the first time.

Vinnies NSW can provide assistance paying bills, food parcels, material aid, housing and homelessness services, access to the No Interest Loans Scheme, advocacy and referral to relevant services.
