Intergenerational Theater at Epiphany!

What fun was had by all who participated in the Missoula Children's Theater production at Epiphany! Serenity Jones and Nickela Rooney, two amazing young women from MCT, came to town August 2-6 to direct local recruits and act alongside them in The Emperor's New Clothes. This version of the musical was written and conceived by Jim Caron and Matt Loehrke with music and lyrics by Jim Caron, Michael McGill Greg Boris, and Amy Ellis. The script, music, and delivery were delightful while illuminating Hans Christian Andersen's tale about the importance of speaking the truth even when it's not the popular thing to do.

The cast may have been small, but their enthusiasm and talent were great. Several cast members switched costumes to play multiple roles. Due to circumstances, only 2 1/2 days of practice preceded the final show. Acting instruction interspersed with team-building exercises kept everyone engaged and working together on the daunting task of putting on a production with a small cast and little time. Theater in the time of COVID is indeed challenging.

Hats off to the folks from Epiphany who participated. Melissa Driscole, Epiphany's choir director, provided the piano accompaniment for the lively musical numbers. Our own Mother Lou Divis (who has wowed us in the past with a hilarious talent show telling of the Three Little Pigs from the wolf's perspective) played the Queen of the Water. And, no stranger to the theater, was Epiphany's own Phoebe Mattes playing Queen of the Air, among other roles. Additional cast members came from the community.

On Friday at noon, an assembly of family, friends, and supporters was thoroughly entertained by this delightful piece of theater. Following the show, brown bag lunches, ice cream treats, and fellowship were shared among the cast and audience. A lovely way to invest funds honoring Mary Benjamin, a late parishioner and ongoing benefactor of the church.

A Verse for Today

People were bringing even infants to him that he might touch them; and when the disciples saw it, they sternly ordered them not to do it. But Jesus called for them and said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of God belongs.”

- Luke 18:15-16

Postcard Ministry Opportunity, from Mo. Lou:

This is a particularly vulnerable time for state and federal prisoners.  Conditions, even without the pandemic, are awful in our prisons. Imagine what it is like now with the virus spreading through the close and unhealthy prison settings.  I invite you to write a postcard to one or more of the inmates listed below to let them know we have not forgotten them.  If the inmate responds you might consider becoming pen pals.
