“What do you want to do with the rest of your life?” is the dreaded question we hear when graduating from college. Almost ten years later, it shows no sign of slowing down.

Over the past year, I have frequently felt behind. As David reminds us in this book, development is not linear. We have this expectation that career paths are supposed to be a straight line; decide on a path, put in the hours, and then retire (preferably early); but that’s not how it works for most of us. 99.8% of us have no clue what we want to do, and still don't.

These diversions that set us back in the short term end up becoming powerful tools in the long term. Instead of thinking about our careers as a one way street, David recommends framing it as a novel and asking yourself, “What’s my next adventure or chapter?”

We’re conditioned to see transitions or career jumps as a bad thing and told to limit them on our resumes, but that’s all part of the process. There’s discovery at the beginning and along the way. And if you’re ever feeling lost and unsure about who you want to be in your professional life, think about what you really love to do, not what kind of job or career you want to have.

Neutral Nail Polish

I am taking a long break from going to the salon for dip nails. Sienna is the next best thing with the most insane nail polish formula. Even if you aren’t good at painting your nails, this dries evenly and never leaves those dreaded brush strokes. It’s also a great small business to support with solid ethics.

Babolat Pure Strike

This is a great racquet for an immediate player. Plenty of power and control and not too flexible. It’s the perfect racquet if you like to wear down on opponents. I have mine strung with RPM Blast 17.

Juice Jars Combo Pack

My pantry and refrigerator is full of Weck jars. They’re practical, beautiful and the glass is superior to Ball Mason jars. Plus, I’d rather pull on the tab to open the lid on Weck Jars rather than peeling the flat up with my fingers on Mason jars.
