Updates and Special Notices

SPECIAL NOTICE: Boston Symphony Rehearsals - The COA is considering offering transportation to and from the Thursday morning rehearsals if we have enough people interested. Orchestra seats are $30 per concert and there are 4 concerts in the series, November 11, January 20, March 3, and April 14 all at 10:30 am. The COA has grant funds available to cover a portion of the cost of each ticket, as well as scholarship funds. If you are interested in participating, email jingersoll@carlisema.gov or call the COA 978-371-2895.

SPECIAL NOTICE: Beginner Pilates Mat Class - 1:00pm every Friday - Mat Pilates helps build a strong, balanced body and increases flexibility. You only need a mat, and some floor space to participate for this 30-minute beginner class. Fee: $5 per drop-in class for Carlisle 60+ residents paid directly to Kendra. SPECIAL NOTICE: Parkinson’s Wellness Classes - Offered by Emerson Hospital - Emerson is offering 3 8-week courses several times over the next year. All three classes are offered starting in August. Topics include speech, dance, and exercise.  Link here for details and registration.
 
SPECIAL NOTICE: Recess Monitor - Carlisle Public School is seeking a recess monitor to assist with supervision of students in Kindergarten - Grade 8 during lunch/recess.  This paid position is for school days, Monday through Friday, from 11:00am-1:00pm beginning on September 1, 2021 and running through the end of the school year in June 2022. If interested, please contact Dr. Dennet Sidell, Elementary Principal, dsidell@carlisle.k12.ma.us.

FREE pastries provided by the Carlisle COA and Bridges by EPOCH, Westford. Ferns gives 10% off coffee to Senior Moment attendees. Blood pressure screening provided by Bridges.
 
Tuesday, August 24 A Stepping Stone to Oblivion: A History of the US Vice Presidency - 1:00pm via Zoom - Presented by the Acton COA - Join historian Paolo Di Gregorio as he talks about the difficult position of the number two job in the American government. The Vice Presidency comes with a title, but very little power, and often less respect. This FREE lecture will look at the history of the vice presidency, the office, and the men and woman who have held it. Email seniorcenter@actonma.gov to register & receive the Zoom link.

Wednesday, August 25 Rockport Day Trip - Van leaves Congregational Church at 9:45 am, returning around 4:00pm - Rockport, situated at the tip of the Cape Ann peninsula, is known for its food, shopping, and seaside charm. It’s the perfect place to relax by the ocean, browse the work of an incredible number of artists, and of course, eat seafood. Van fee is $10 payable to driver on the day of the trip.  TRIP IS FULL.  Call the COA 978-371-2895 for the waitlist.

Wednesday, August 25 The Surreal World of René Magritte - 1:00pm via Zoom - Presented by Acton COA - Join Jane Oneail, founder of Culturally Curious, for this FREE virtual art appreciation program. René Magritte’s work delighted and fascinated audiences long before Paul Simon’s famous song. This program will focus on the life and influences of the Belgian Surrealist painter whose paintings are both familiar and confounding. Discover the ways his work relates to contemporaries like Salvador Dali and learn how art historians interpret his mysterious paintings. Monday, August 30 Restaurant Review: Café Escadrille - Van leaves Congregational Church at 11:15am; returning around 2:00pm - Van fee $2 payable to driver on the day of the trip. Only 12 seats available on the van. First come, first served. Call the COA 978-371-2895 to register by Monday, August 23.

Saturday, September 11 Lake Winnipesaukee Cruise - 8:30am-5:30pm; bus pick up/drop off at Nara Park, 25 Ledge Rock Way, Acton - Fee: Carlisle 60+ $94 (others $109pp) - Sailing from Weirs Beach, you’ll delight in the beautiful vistas of the White Mountains from the decks of the 230-foot M/S Mount Washington as you cruise the famous lake. You’ll enjoy a relaxing, splendid day as your Captain sails from port to port. Comfortable deck chairs are available for your use on this scenic tour. Your narrated cruise of this immense lake also includes a delicious, full course buffet luncheon. Before you cruise, you’ll visit the Moulton Farm Market, where farm-fresh vegetables, cakes, pies and more are available for purchase.
