MISSION UPDATE
As the fourth wave of COVID pandemic is raging and more children are falling victims of this virus, we look forward to  helping as many patients and medical staff to get through these unprecedented times. There is increased awareness about the many benefits of animal assisted therapy (AAT) and activities (AAA). Our teams in CA, TN, SC, NC and FL panhandle are ready to serve. These animal-assisted interactions (AAI) are used to help ease anxiety, relieve stress and offer comfort and cheer during these challenging times.

PROGRAM NEWS
ANIMAL ASSISTED THERAPY
 
We're thrilled to welcome 3 new canine advocates part of the court dogs program in Michigan. Shayne is working in Jackson County, Rubi is in Schoolcraft County and Penny is at the LACASA victim advocate center.  These newbies were able to comfort 61 children who were victims of abuse. But that's not all, additional 85 child crime victims were helped during court proceedings, victims interview, and other community contacts. 1 FUR 1 animal assisted therapy programs have helped more than 13,200 children with disabilities and crime victims over the past 5 years.
ANIMAL ASSISTED ACTIVITY

Existing staff shortages across the country, exacerbated by the coronavirus pandemic, have caused widespread burnout among health workers, even forcing some to walk off the job, health specialists and hospital officials say.(read more). So 1 FUR 1 animal assisted activity programs welcomed a new partner this year focused on helping medical professionals across TN, SC and NC. In just one month, 4 Newfie therapy dogs were able to comfort 687 nurses, doctors, patients, first responders, firefighters and police officers. This service is vital and we need your support to continue this effort free-of-charge to all medical staff that might be thinking about walking off the job.
