Walgett COVID-19 case triggers lockdowns in western New South Wales

On 11 August, several communities in western NSW went into a 7-day lockdown after 4 people tested positive for COVID-19.

The areas in lockdown have high Indigenous populations.  Read the full article on the ABC news website.

If you are planning travel, or have recently returned to South Australia, please make sure you’re doing the right thing to keep your community safe.

Remember:

Information is changing quickly so keep visiting the SA Health website to see if you have visited an exposure site.

If you have been directed by SA Health to quarantine, or have been to an exposure site, you must stay in quarantine for the required period of time.

Please continue to follow the health advice and play your part in stopping the spread:
  • Stay home and get tested if you have any symptoms of COVID-19, no matter how mild.
  • Use the COVID Safe Check-In at all required businesses and events.
  • Get vaccinated if you haven’t already. Book online now.

Border control and travel exemption changes

The current COVID-19 situation in the eastern states is concerning. To protect South Australians, additional measures are being introduced to help reduce the risk of the virus spreading into our state.

Different levels of restrictions, quarantine and testing requirements exist for entry into South Australia from all states and territories.

All people wishing to enter South Australia must complete a Cross Border Travel Registration with SA Police at least 3 days before you leave, regardless of where your travel begins.

Travel into South Australia from a restricted zone (NSW, ACT, VIC, QLD) is prohibited unless you:

  • are an essential traveller
  • are a returning South Australian resident
  • are genuinely relocating to South Australia
  • are escaping domestic violence

You must apply for an SA Health Essential traveller health exemption.

You must also complete quarantine at a suitable address or medi-hotel and COVID-19 testing requirements.

Exemptions will not be given to people wanting to enter a designated community.

Before you apply, visit the covid-19 website for information on what to prepare for your application. There is currently a delay in processing applications and may take up to 14 days.

Apply for an SA Health Travel Exemption using the new portal

SA Health Travel Exemption Portal
New users will be required to provide two forms of identification to set up a secure account and access the portal. Acceptable identification includes an Australian driver’s licence, Medicare card, Australian passport or an Australian Visa.

All Aboriginal people 12 years and over can now be vaccinated against COVID-19

The best thing we can do to protect ourselves, our families and communities is to practice COVID Safe behaviours and get vaccinated against COVID-19.

Recently, the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) and Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI) recommended the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine be extended from 16 years and over to include Aboriginal children aged 12–15 years.

  • Pfizer is the recommended COVID-19 vaccine for Aboriginal people aged 12 – 59 years.
  • AstraZeneca is the recommended COVID-19 vaccine for people aged 60+ as approved by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA).

Aboriginal young people can get vaccinated at an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation or at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital.

For questions or if you are having trouble making an online booking, call the SA COVID-19 Information Line on 1800 253 787, 9.00 am to 5.00 pm, 7 days.
