Fish Welfare Initiative August Updates

Hello,

We are excited to share our progress from around the world with you:

India. Karthik, our Managing Director, and Haven, our Director of Operations, spent the first week of August in Delhi where they met with government officials and corporations to discuss potential fish welfare commitments. The reaction of their meeting partners was largely positive and they are willing to work with us, for example, to source higher welfare fish from our partner farms and develop state-wide aquaculture standards.

Portugal. Our Fish Welfare Expert, Marco, has worked with the Portuguese Aquaculture Experimental Station (EPPO) in Olhão to improve their farming practices. Among other improvements, Marco suggested lower stocking densities and improved methods for less stressful capture and handling. The staff at EPPO readily implemented all suggestions. These improvements will affect some 45,000 fish each cycle! We are even more excited about this collaboration because EPPO significantly influences the Portuguese aquaculture industry.
