AUGUST 18, 2021
Earlier this year, we did a check-in survey, and learned that 25% of respondents envisioned a full return to the office. Does that still resonate? We have created a one-minute survey (just 6 questions!) to see how we’re continuing to deal with the ongoing challenges of the pandemic. Your answers will help inform future programming, and aggregate results will be shared in future newsletters so that we can all see how we’re faring.

Behind on Your Rent or Energy Bills?

The Michigan State Housing Development Authority, DTE Energy and Detroit Public TV are hosting a live free virtual discussion to help residents find the financial help they need in these challenging times.

Be part of the conversation on Wednesday, Aug. 18, from 5-6:30 p.m. Register to join online here or watch on Facebook.

If you are facing eviction or need help with your monthly utility bills, there is help available to you in the form of a variety of financial assistance programs.

On Wednesday, August 18, MSHDA (Michigan State Housing Development Authority), DTE Energy and Detroit Public TV are presenting a live, free virtual discussion to share critical information about programs to assist people who have fallen behind on their rent, mortgage or energy payments.

Viewers will learn about the COVID Emergency Rental Assistance (CERA) program, housing initiatives for vulnerable Michigan residents, plans for a COVID-relief program intended for those who own their homes and other valuable assistance. The topic of credit repair will also be addressed.

DTE leaders will provide information about several energy assistance and payment programs such as the Low-Income Self-Sufficiency program (LSP), the Home Heating Credit (HHC), the State Emergency Relief (SER) application and energy efficiency initiatives.

These programs may sound complicated, but this special virtual event will explain all the details and respond to viewer questions in a live Q&A session.

For more information and to register, visit here. You can also join the conversation on Facebook.

Open to all residents of Michigan, this event is designed to provide resources that will build health, wealth and community. MSHDA partners with financial institutions, housing counseling agencies, local realtors, faith-based organizations, land banks and other organizations to deliver such services.

What will the future look like for Southeast Michigan's nonprofits?

Over the last 18 months, nonprofit organizations in the region have spent much of their days in a reactive state: responding, experimenting and working to survive in order to continue serving community needs.

Giving Black
Tuesday, August 31 | 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM

The Association of Fundraising Professionals West Michigan will be hosting a virtual panel discussion in celebration of Black Philanthropy Month.  Representatives from several West Michigan organizations will share how their work has impacted the West Michigan community through philanthropy.

A 2012 study from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation reported that African Americans donate a higher percentage of their incomes to charity than any other ethnic group in this country.  In recognition of August as Black Philanthropy Month, we are hosting this community panel to celebrate and amplify the philanthropic contributions of African Americans in our community.
