Myanmar security forces are responsible for war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide committed over several decades. The architects and perpetrators of these crimes have enjoyed complete impunity. Since a February 1 military coup d’état, questions have been raised about whether the National Unity Government (NUG) of Myanmar can enter Myanmar into binding treaties under international law, including the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC).
 
A legal analysis by Fortify Rights entitled Ending Impunity in Myanmar reveals new findings on how the NUG may grant jurisdiction to the ICC to investigate and prosecute those responsible for atrocity crimes perpetrated in Myanmar.

Fortify Rights will launch the 48-page report (available in both Burmese and English) during an online Zoom press conference featuring a panel discussion of the report findings and recommendations.

  • Matthew Smith, CEO and co-founder, Fortify Rights
