Hello BC Climbers! 

As we enter the 2021/22 season, SCBC is excited to get competition climbing started again after a long pause due to Covid-19. We were pleased to be able to host a training camp for our Team BC Gold and Silver athletes this past weekend at Richmond Olympic Oval. This is a short update to let you know what we are planning and to gather some information about interest in competition.

Support your local gym!!
With the current circumstances, climbing gyms in BC are still understandably hesitant to run a full competition. We are looking towards late fall as a target for hosting some competitions with our local facilities. Until then, we encourage you to visit your local gyms and participate in teams and local events that they may run. It is with your continued support that our BC gyms will be able to once again host SCBC sanctioned competitions.

Open Competitors (birth year 2006 & earlier)
Open Bouldering Nationals (OBN) is coming up November 25-29 and SCBC will need to select a team to send. With no results from the past year, selection is a bit more challenging. The attached Google Form is to assess how many athletes are dedicated to their training and are interested in competing for Team BC at Boulder Nationals. This will allow us to appropriately plan for a selection procedure. Quotas for Nationals are still undecided, but once we are able to gauge athlete interest and commitment, we will be better able to develop an appropriate selection plan. We have been looking at several possible options including utilizing the North American Cup in Kanata as a qualifying event for BC athletes. Potential local options also exist.
 
Some things to keep in mind if you are interested in attending Open Boulder Nationals:

• The age eligibility for Open Nationals is those born in 2006 and before.
• Open Boulder Nationals will be in the East. It is not confirmed exactly where, but it will be in the East so please consider your willingness to travel before submitting your form.
• The North American Cup is taking place in Kanata, Ontario Oct. 23-24. If there are more athletes interested in attending OBN than BC is given quota for, this event may be chosen as a selection event for Team BC. Note: please still answer the Google Form if you are interested but are not willing to travel to Kanata, there will be a question asking your eagerness.

Youth Competitors
For youth competitors, we are looking towards November as a good ballpark as to when climbing gyms are more open to running events. SCBC is working on some different formats for events that would be easier to run, and would like to thank everyone for your patience. Keep training with your team and support your local gyms!
