Tampa Charter Athletic League Competitive Sports to Return

Welcome back to the 2021-2022 school year!  We wanted to let everyone know that athletics will be starting very shortly but there is some important information you need to know before we get started.

Girls Volleyball
Unfortunately, due to the current COVID levels in the community, we are only offering outdoor sports at this time.  We plan on trying to get some other schools on board with playing later in the year, though.  So, an actual volleyball season is still a possibility just not at this time.

Boys’ Soccer (5th – 8th Grade)
Two steps required to attend tryouts:
  1. Submit a current FHSAA Sports Physical to the school office at administration@lutzprep.org.  Your standard health forms ARE NOT the same as a sports physical.  If you do not have this completed and turned in you WILL NOT be able to tryout.  A sports physical can be given by your pediatrician or at a local Minute Clinic or Med Express for a nominal fee.
  2. Click HERE to complete the Tryout Registration and Sports Liability Waiver online form.
Season Information
  • Tryouts (2 days): Tuesday, August 24th and Thursday August 26th
  • Time: After dismissal until 4:30 PM.  Students are to stay in their normal dismissal spots until dismissal is completed and then are to report to the gym where they can then dress out for tryouts and report to the field.
  • Recommended: Soccer cleats, shin guards, water bottles, school appropriate athletic clothes
  • Pickup: Pickup will be promptly at 4:30 PM.  There will be a sign out sheet to release your athlete from tryouts that you will need to sign in order to take your child.  If you are more than 10 minutes late your student will be escorted to aftercare where you will be responsible for any charges that may be incurred.
  • Alternate Tryout Due to Quarantine: In case your student/athlete is quarantined during the scheduled tryout dates we will be holding an extra, one day tryout shortly after the regularly scheduled tryout dates.  However, we will have to wait to schedule the extra tryout date and time until we can understand how many students need  to be accommodated and when their return to school coincides with practices/season play.  Also, please be aware that this WILL NOT be an extra tryout for those students who did not fill out the proper paperwork or could not make it the other dates due to any other circumstances.  This is only to accommodate those who were unable to tryout due to required quarantine.
  • Pre-Season Practices:
    • 2-3 practices per week; after dismissal until 4:30
  • Season:
    • Early September through mid to late October.
    • 10 regular season games and then playoffs (normally 1-2 extra games).
  • Games: Typically on Tuesdays and Thursday starting at 4:30.
  • Season Practices:
    • 1-2 days per week on days opposite games (up to coach’s discretion) after dismissal until 4:30 PM
  • Pickup: Same as tryouts
  • Travel: Within 30 minutes of Lutz Prep when games are away.

Coed Cross Country (5th-8th Grade)
We are in desperate need of a coach for our 5th-8th Grade Coed Cross Country Team.  Unfortunately, if we do not have a volunteer by Friday, August 27th our student/athletes will not be offered this sport for the upcoming school year.  Below is a general outline of the season.  If you are interested and would like more information on the positions please contact chad.mollick@lutzprep.org as soon as possible.  Thank you and GO BOLTS!

How to Report Your Child Absent
Due to the pandemic, we are required to track every absence. Our policy is to have all absenses (related to health or other reasons) reporting to our school via the online attendance tool located on our website or click on the image to the right.  Any supporting documentation related to the absence (doctor's notes, etc.) should be emailed to attendance@lutzprep.org.

Reporting a COVID Diagnosis
If your child tests positive for COVID-19 we are requesting that parents immediately report this to the school via the COVID-19 Reporting Form on our website (even overnight and/or weekends). This will allow our step-by-step mitigation process to begin with contact tracing and notification to all students/staff that may have been potentially exposed.  Thank you for your partnership in helping us keep all of our students and staff healthy.

If a member of the student's household tests positive for COVID-19 please keep your student home from school for quarantine and contact administration@lutzprep.org.  Nurse Kopp will reach out with details on when the student can return to school; teacher will reach out with details on quarantine learning environment.
Checking Students Out of School Early
Reminder, the latest time to check-out your student from the office early for appointments is prior to 2:00 PM on regular days (and 11:00 AM on early release days).  This is due to our staff prepping for the staggered dismissal of our younger students. Driver's license required for check out in the office.

Severe Weather Policy:  SAFETY IS A PRIORITY
Inclement Weather Dismissal
Regular rain does not change our normal dismissal process.  If inclement weather impacts our local area, please review our updated Severe Weather Policy below and follow instructions from staff in carline.  We will also communicate with you via text messages through HCPS Parent Link system with the cell phone number from your student's file.

Severe Weather Policy
If lightning, weather warnings, or other weather-related elements deemed unsafe for staff and students to follow normal dismissal procedures, LUTZ PREP will halt/stop dismissal and have students and staff remain in the building until it is safe to resume. We ask that parents remain in their cars while dismissal is stopped.  The school will send out messages via text system in an effort to keep parents notified of updates as the school receives them.

If your contact information changes at any time, please make sure you update your student's records with our registrar or send an email to admissions@lutzprep.org.

Thank you for partnering with us to help keep safety a top priority!
