August Meeting

LCA Annual Meeting & Recycling 101

Tuesday, August 10, 2021
7:00 - 8:30 p.m.
(by Zoom video conference - REGISTER NOW)

Have you ever found yourself standing over the trash bin wondering whether you could spare the item in your hand the interminable fate of sitting in a landfill? Yah, us too. That's why we've invited the Oakland Recycles team to join us next week at our August meeting, where City of Oakland Recycling Program staff and representatives from Oakland’s franchised haulers will discuss how to properly recycle and compost discarded materials.

After a brief presentation, there will be plenty of time for Q&A. If you already have questions in mind, please send them to board@longfellowoakland.org by Friday, August 6, so we can pass them on to our presenters and they can come prepared with the best answers.

Following all the trash talk, we'll hold our official 2020 Annual Meeting. (Yes, you read that date correctly–we're playing COVID-19 catch-up!) Your LCA Board officers will provide an update on the Association's financials and upcoming leadership elections.

Be sure to register in advance to receive a personalized link to join the meeting.

Latest LCA Website Updates

If you haven't visited the LCA website recently, be sure to check out the latest improvements at longfellowoakland.org. We've added more detail about the history of the LCA, and re-organized the Resources page in an effort to make it more helpful and easier for neighbors to quickly find what they need.

Shout out to neighbor Nisha Sudarsanam for lending us her time and web skills to make these updates happen. As always, we welcome your input and ideas on how to make the LCA website more meaningful and helpful for everyone in our neighborhood.

2020 LCA Leadership Elections & Bylaw Updates

In the spirit of "COVID-19 catch-up"... somehow we forgot to hold leadership elections in 2020. Two of our Board Members were up for re-election at the end of last year, so rather than let a whole year go by without a fix, the Board has decided to hold a belated 2020 election this month.

While we're at it, two additional neighbors have been nominated to fill vacant Board seats, and we have some bylaw updates to propose as well. So, voting members should keep an eye on their inbox (or junk folder) for an official 2020 LCA Election Ballot in the next couple of weeks.

Who are "voting members", you ask? According to the LCA Bylaws, a neighbor becomes a "member" of LCA once they attend at least two meetings or events in the calendar year. So, if you live and/or own a business in Longfellow, have attended two or more meetings/events since January 2020, and don't receive a ballot in the next week or two, please let the Board know.

Connect with LCA on Slack!

Though we can't meet in person for the time being, we encourage you to join the LCA Workspace on Slack, where you can collaborate with the LCA Board and other neighbors to keep our organization's community-building initiatives and resources going! (If the link above expires before you click it, contact us for an updated invite.)
