South West CONNECT Regional Innovation Hub Participant and Swimming Women Chief Mermaid Charlotte O'Beirne
2 billion women in the world can’t swim.

In Australia, the supposed land of water lovers, only 18% of the 6 million women age 30-65 swim regularly.

Swimming Women breaks down the barriers that discourage women from swimming by providing opportunities for women to swim in safe, supportive, female focused communities where they face their vulnerabilities, challenge themselves and improve their physical and mental health.

Swimming Women is growing quickly with over 1400 participants in the south west region alone. Founder and CEO Charlotte O’Beirne and her team aim to be the number one trusted brand for women who want to swim, and to build a network of Swimming Women pods around the world.

Innovation Cluster News

METS Ignited and the Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation (JTSI) formally launched another chapter in Cluster development for Western Australia in July.

The WA Cluster Program was officially opened by the Hon Don Punch, Minister for Innovation and ICT and the Chief Scientist of Western Australia, Professor Peter Klinken AC.

Innovation Cluster's Peter Rossdeutscher facilitated the panel discussion that highlighted the power of clustering and collaboration across cities and regions to stimulate growth, diversify economies and create jobs across multiple sectors building on Western Australia’s existing world class technologies and global competitiveness in many sectors.

METS Ignited will deliver a series of monthly events starting in August - these clustering events will provide a space where like-minded professionals can gather to exchange ideas.

Congratulations to Peter who received the prestigious ‘Achiever of The Year’ at the The INCITE Awards last week recognising outstanding contribution to the ICT industry in WA.

Other Award winners on the night included Vix Technology, East Metropolitan Health Service, Avicena Systems, Rio Tinto, Curtin University, Edith Cowan University, and Charlie Gunningham.

  • Little Eeden Farm Apiary in a high growth phase who have expansion plans coming to fruition.
  • Northern Valleys Locavore Store who talked about their growth, particularly during COVID, their future plans and how REDs grant helped to develop their business including providing  an in-store and online platform for local growers to sell their produce.
Over lunch at Orchid Glory, AgriStart’s Natasha Teakle talked about funding business growth, overcoming the ‘valley of death’ and other strategies for businesses in different phases. Opportunities

Export Market Development Grants (EMDG) have been helping Australian businesses grow their exports since 1974. Close to 50,000 Australian businesses have grown their exports in overseas markets with the help of EMDG.

There are  3 different grants available, depending on your export-business maturity.
There are also grants for industry representatives to help their members become export ready and export successfully.

Our CONNECT partners RLG can assist you with the EMDG and export journey. All work undertaken with RLG is claimable through the EMDG. More info here.
