Hello <<First Name>>
Welcome to the August Newsletter.

It was great to get away and enjoy a change of scenery last weekend.... while we could!

There's an old saying which I'm sure you've heard "Variety is the spice of life".

I'm reminded of it because we are currently being tested with ongoing disruption and change. But also monotony, of working from home and lock-downs.

As I'm sure you are aware, working from home, or homeschooling children can feel like groundhog day. Which can lead you to loose your sense of time.

Have you noticed this?

I had a discussion about this recently.

We commented that life recently feels like a blur, or you just cant really remember where you're up to in life. Why is that?

Studies are being done to get some data and stats about what's going. I've linked a couple of articles below.

https://pursuit.unimelb.edu.au/articles/did-time-slow-down-in-lockdown
https://www.bbc.com/future/article/20201113-covid-19-affecting-memory

One thing we do know is that when you are stressed or worried  - you don't think straight. Memory is affected and you can make poor decisions. You can learn more about this in my Window of Tolerance resource.

What can you do?
Let's cut to the chase about what you can do to feel more grounded, connected, present, confident, and optimistic. As well as having a better memory and sense of time and space.

  • Live mindfully. Now this is easier said than done, but living mindfully - as an overarching theme will help you 'wake up' to what you are doing and how you're being in any given moment.
  • Make flexible plans with set dates for the future to anchor your sense of time. Be mindful of past, present and future.
  • Compartmentalize your days and weeks. If you're working from home for example, have a start and finish time to your day.
  • Be sure to have your weekend / uninterrupted blocks of 'me time' or 'family time' like you used to.
  • Reflect on your day. Make it a habit. Talk with your partner, friends, kids etc about what you all got up to, enjoyed etc.
  • Create a space for work only if you can. Be mindful of being in 'work mode' and 'home mode' to avoid a cross-over blur. This can be especially helpful for kids.
  • Make a time to 'worry' and get the latest covid news, then tune it out.
  • Take pictures, and journal about your life. Make small events like going to the park or walking the dog memorable.
  • Connect with others and chat about what they have been up to.

It's all about connecting events (and emotions) to a timeline and...
reducing fear, worry and stress so you are open to storing memories and being human!

Continue to connect with others and adapt to doing things differently.

There could be new opportunities bubbling up that will replace your 'old ways' of doing things.
For example. A new local coffee-shop may open up in lieu of visiting your favourite city based shop.

Instead of walking your dog after work in the dark, you can do that during the day, and meet some new people in the sun.

What new opportunities have you noticed, and taken advantage of? What new ideas can you put into action and test drive?

Struggling with change?

Remember a time when you went through a change - and came out the other side ok, or even better for it... What lessons can you adopt from then, to now...

The Self Worth Quiz is Back!

Lee has refined and re-created this quiz to rate your Self worth.
Now why would you want to do that you might ask...?

Self worth is a vital ingredient for your self-esteem, confidence, motivation and 'self concept' - (who you aspire to become).

In relationships, having a healthy level of self worth has many benefits toward maintaining a functional and loving relationship.

For example someone with low self worth...
  • May not feel worthy of love from their partner.
  • May not express how they are feeling, making communication difficult.
  • May be more dependent on their partner - creating all sorts of problems arising from imbalance.

On the flip side, having a healthy level of self worth...
  • Helps you feel worthy of love and to express love to your partner, and support others.
  • Helps you feel confident in expressing yourself, communicating and building trust.
  • Helps you be self reliant and get through difficult times maturely.

Taking the quiz is not scientific, but it will give you a pretty good sense of where you stand in regards to self worth.

On the results page there are some basic strategies and linked resources to help you take the next step.

And remember, You can also do the quiz again at a later time to gauge your improvements.

Life Values of the Month

This Month, your Life Values combo is Purpose, Common Sense, and Mindfulness.

Think about these three values together and how they might relate to each other in your life...

Challenge yourself by asking yourself (or your partner) the following questions...

  • How mindful of your purpose in life are you?
  • What is the relationship between common sense and Mindfulness?
  • In what way could being more mindful add a greater sense of purpose in your life?
  • What knowledge or belief do you have that you'd like to see adopted as 'common sense' in the community? Why?
