Happy Thursday TARTans,
Yesterday I had the pleasure to spend the day with partners on the trails. TART Trails hosted Michigan Department of Transportation Director Paul Ajegba who wanted to learn more about our region's non-motorized networks and efforts around Traverse City to support resilient and healthy communities. It was an honor and delight to see firsthand all our community has accomplished to improve mobility options, showcase the direct benefits of MDOT's long time investment and support, and share our excitement for what's ahead. While on a trail tour around town and out on the Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail, the director met with local partners who shared their vision and plans for stronger, more connected communities. As we toured projects, I was so proud to witness the incredible passion and commitment that leaders are bringing to make our communities better places to live, work and play. It was a powerful reminder that we are connected not only through the infrastructure that's built, but through the relationships, friendships and trust we have established through the collective vision we share for healthy, thriving communities.

With gratitude,

Julie Clark, Executive Director

NEWS TO KNOW

Acme Connector Public Campaign is a Success

You did it! With incredible community support, we were able to meet our $75,000 goal, securing a 1:1 matching donation from the Oleson Foundation, Tri-County Bicycle Association – DALMAC Fund, and Aspire North Realtors® for the Acme Connector Trail. An incredible 150 of you showed up and donated to this project which will allow us to provide safe access to businesses, existing trails, and recreation opportunities in and around Acme! Thanks to everyone for helping us cross this finish line, and reach this incredible milestone in kicking off the southernmost section of the Nakwema Trailway. We will continue to post project updates at nakwematrailway.org.
Welcome to Team TART

Miss Esmeray made her big debut on Monday, July 12th. A bit earlier than expected, but baby and mom Kate, Community Engagement Manager at TART Trails, are doing well. The family is healthy and happy at home settling into their new family life. Welcome to the world (that your parents are helping make better) baby Esmeray!

Three Mile Trail Presentation

Informed by thoughtful community input, a thorough design analysis, and our project partners at Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy, Norte, and East Bay Township, TART Trails is seeking support on the conceptual design for the proposed Three Mile Trail extension between South Airport and Hammond Roads. TART Trails will be presenting on the proposed concepts at the August 9th  Board of Trustees meeting.

TART TRIVIA

What is Cyclo-Tourism?

Cyclo tourism or “bikepacking” is a hobby that combines pleasure and travel on a bicycle. Touring can range from single-day trips, to multi-day trips, to years. Pictured here is Cherry Capital Cycling Club Members Bill Danly and Steve Mitton on their ride back from Leelanau State Park last month, preparing for a longer tour from Wisconsin.
Do you have plans to travel via bike this weekend?
