As I write this, I am on my front porch watching the daily life of my neighbourhood. This lovely spot has been my home office for the second summer in a row. As much as I love being in the fresh air, I am missing being with my work colleagues. We’ve all experienced some losses, some joyful moments, and just everyday life without the ability to experience these things in community as we once did. I miss simple things like surprising a co-worker with a much needed coffee or chocolate. I am so thankful that we have started, or are planning to start returning to the office again (depending on which side of the border we all work on!)

However, during our time apart, I was amazed at the collaboration that happened within ministries, across ministries and amongst volunteers. A pandemic did not get in the way of creating community! Faith Formation Ministry, Pastor Church Resources, and CRC Disability Concerns worked together to update an excellent resource focused on the mental health of church leaders: Developing Healthy Dialogues Around Ministry Leaders' Mental Health.

Together, our ministries encourage classes to make space for important discussions around mental health and ministry leadership. What does it mean to lead in our current climate? What does leading look like in this liminal space? How can we support one another, approaching this idea from the perspective of good mental health? Consider sharing this resource with your classis today!

Have you considered writing for Breaking Barriers?

Breaking Barriers newsletter has a print circulation of about 80,000 print copies per quarter plus over 2500 electronic subscriptions to Christian Reformed and Reformed Church in America churches and many individuals. Here’s what we are planning for the next issue, and we’d love to have your contributions.

Winter 2021—Young people with disabilities
In Canada and the United States, about 13 percent of people ages 15–30 live with a disability. Are you one of them? Please tell us a story (up to 400 words) about living with a disability when nearly 90 percent of your peers do not. Send your submission by September 27, 2021.
