It’s (over) time to center people with disabilities
Over the last year and a half, our personal and professional lives have blended in ways that weren't conceivable before COVID-19. We've watched as employers rapidly shifted to provide accommodations for employees to work in ways that made them feel safest (often from home) and supported (making space for dedicated mental health time in the face of collective grief). This was particularly beneficial, and incredibly overdue, for those with disabilities working in the tech industry.
As we turn our attention to what comes next, one thing remains clear: we must continue advocating for disability accomodations, inclusion, justice, and representation at work. Join PDXWIT and host Momentive later this month for a panel discussion moderated and led by people living with disabilities. They will share their experiences working in the tech industry and make recommendations for how tech can become a place where everyone can show up as their full, authentic selves at work. And between now and then, check out PDXWIT's newest slack channels for people with disabilities in tech for community building and resource sharing.
